Transmission Malfunction!

Hi guys
just got my 2006 M5 with 13500 miles on it. first 2 days of driving was totally fine. today when i was driving at about 20 mph, suddenly the
RED COG sigh showed and indicating the transmission malfunction!!
the car can not be driven because it will not find the gears, i put in D and it revs to like 3500 rpm and then suddenly the car shoots out....its scary..
so i called the bmw assist and have it towed to dealership...
anyone has experienced the transmission failure???? i mean..it should not happen on 100k car.....i am really pissed off...my 100k lexus never had a transmission problem, ever!
do you guys know how long will take the bmw to fix the transmission malfunction?? by the way my engine is running fine...knock on wood) it will not go wrong...
will they replace the transmission and will i have to pay for it????

There's a 100k Lexus? Unfortunately its a common thing on early build date M5s.

From what I've read, they'll cover under warranty with either the SMG hydraulic pump or even a complete tranny. You *should* be a-ok after they fix it. Search for "Red Cog" and you'll find many threads on this subject. Bodaddy is right. Early build date M5's have this 'bug'

While she's in the shop, have the dealer perform all the necessary Progman updates and TIS (Techinical Service Bullitin) work on it, such as the vanos recall and other stuff. You should be ok. Good luck.

New Century in Alhambra CA? If so, yes, they are a decent dealership. Aren't you located in SD?

Anyhow, if this is your first time there and you have a choice in Service Advisors, PM me who you have and I'll tell you about him. (I've had experience directly and indirectly with like 6 of the SA's there).
