2008 M5 Seats Question

Hey everyone,

I've read a few threads about seats and the many different versions of them for the E60 M5.

I currently have a 550i with the 20-way seats (black dakota leather), they have side bolsters (that are not automatic but button-operated) and the headrest that comes out on both sides.

For the M5, the "active comfort seats" look like the seats in my car (550i), except they are perforated. They don't really look "sporty" like the M5 seats shown in certain pages of the catalog.

My question is (or a few questions, I guess): Can you get the "sporty" seats with the active sides and the nicer leather (Merino)?

If you want the Merino leather (full) and active sides are you STUCK with the "non-sporty-550i-like" seats?

Does the perforated leather apply ONLY to active-ventilated seats? And if so, are active ventilated seats available ONLY on the "comfort" seats and not sports seats?

Jesus, this is getting confusing!

Thanks guys.

perforated only comes with comfort seates with the cushion at top of head rest--ventialted is a 600 option on top of that
these comfrt seats look like those in a 7 series with that option--which is prolly in showroom somewhere
full leather w/multifunction seats will give u active side bolsters and look sporty as well--this is what i ordered

Yes, just don't get the ventilated option. IMO, the sport seats fit the M5 bravado.

So you can get the softer leather with the regular sport seats? I say this as I love my softer leather but do prefer the look of the sports seats but the touch of the comfort seats. I'm curious now...

You can get the Merino leather with the multi-function sport seats. This is what I have in my car.

For the topic starter, just choose the multi-function sport seats (full leather, of course) and omit the ventilated option. That will give you the seats you're looking for.

This is no longer an accurate statement. The comfort seats effective last month on 08' models no longer have the "cushion" on the base of the headrest like the 7 series. They now are a super soft flat cushion that covers the entire face of the headrest. The cushion is still fully adjustable inwards on both sides, it's just a full cushion now instead of just the lower half. (I will post a picture later) it was changed mid-year.

The ordering option is either: 20-way Comfort seats with perforated leather, or 20-way Multi-function seats. If you don't choose either of those, you get standard 16-way seats.

As far as omitting the vented option, that's not necessary, as the options are bundled.

For 20-way multi-function seats you want order option: 4MA

For 20-way COMFORT seats with ventilation option you want: 456 (Seat), 453 (Vent option)

Your full leather/extended leather are separate options.

The "seat" is actually the same seat as far as functionality, both of them have active bolsters, the only difference is appearance and if you get perforated you get the vented seat option.
