170 MPH!!!
it's 3 am eastern time and as I was driving home I found an open stretch of highway decided to nail it....170 mph came up quite easily scary how these speeds are a walk in the park for the M5, heres my question I thought the M5 and M6 were limited to 155 MPH?

I don't know how is this in US but in Europe they sey that they are limited at 250km/h but you can go up to 270km/h at the odometer.

My '06 M5 was not de-limited and it would get to just about 170 MPH before the limiter kicked in. 170 on the speedometer was actually about 162 or so on the GPS.

yep - - that's indicated...

I get 270kph indicated on my E39, but in reality its 255ish real, or 155mph...


...but what the heck, it is nice to have the open road to cruise at that speed for awhile, don't know if I'd be comfortable going much faster after seeing what a 100mph blowout did to an M5 last year...

I think it must be really dangerous to go over 270km/h, even at night I would never drive so fast. You cannot see enough...

This is correct that the limited M5/M6's hit 170 and that's it. For whatever reason factory has said 155 mph but that is not what we've found with local stock M5's.

A search would've shown the limiter doesn't kick in until a limited 170mph.

Feels rock steady at those speeds, I must say. Shame they didn't just give us the full 204mph capability.
