Problem on Brembo BBK

Hi Guys,

Just want to share some experience on my Brembo Front 8 Piston and Rear 4 Piston.
I took my car to the track. I stopped the car everytime after 3-4 laps. Total probably 10-12 laps.
After the session, everytime I brake, it makes very loud sound on the brake.

I checked to the dealer. The results, all the front pads (total 8 pcs) are cracking. Rear was okay. I'll post some pics.

Any idea?

Clearly you've exceeded the maximum operating temperature of those pads. My suggestion is to run different pads on the street from the track.

Centric makes an excellent low-dust, low noise pad for that caliper - the Posi-Quiet Semi-Metallic. It was designed for the Audi RS4, so it comes with an integrated brake wear sensor and harness. You can either cut off the sensor wire, or you can splice a BMW sensor harness into it and retain the dash warning for low brake pads. These pads are far less expensive than the street pads sold by Brembo for your BBK.

For the track, I suggest the Ferodo DS2500. In a strange departure from standard practice, you will need to purchase TWO boxes of Ferodo pads to fill both calipers. Each box only contains four pieces and you need a total of eight pieces.

Remember, tell Brembo you broke the pads in BEFORE you went to the track....so they won't hassel you about your return....funny this happened, did you have racing tires on the car ??

I think mine are street pads. Several years ago, I did try my E-46 M3 on the track. It was also equipped with Street pads, Front 4/6 Piston (not sure, forgot already), Rear 4 Piston. I did more laps, and I pushed it even harder than this time. No problem at all. Very weird. Maybe I should change it to race pads.

Wow... Great info. Really appreciate it.
Any idea the disadvantage if I use track pads on regular or street driving?
I rarely go the track, probably once a year, only on some special events.

Weird thing, my friend gasterus (active member on this board also) was driving his M6 at the same time. Same laps, we were probably neck to neck. I know his car was much faster than mine His car was fine. No problem at all with stock M6 brake system. I also tried his car, and I felt the Brembo's are much better.
Isn't Brembo should be more reliable than the stock M6 brake? Just curious.

Also bed your pads in next time.

And for your friend, you could just be not as good as a driver. Brakes are NOT meant to stop a car on a race track, they are meant to keep the car balanced going around the race track.

Think of the track as a river and you must flow through it, not try to attack it.

I thought that the Brembo kit for our cars was front calipers 6 pistons and rears 4 piston? That's what I have and at time of purchase there was no other set up. These are the monoblok aluminum calipers right?
