I think I need to go from 75% down to 50%, than roll back on it to WOT as the tires hook.

I really don't see how launching at higher rpms will work with stock tires, but for sure give less gas if I ever want to hope of an effectively launch it.
I'm not sure how it works for US spec Launch Control, but for Euro LC, if you don't keep your foot 100% planted (on the little click button) the whole time even after launch then LC will disengage and all you will get it tyre smoke. Even though the DSC is off for launch control, the LC monitors the amount of wheel spin and limits it by modulating the clutch until the tyres bite, so if you come off full throttle (the click) on Euro spec LC to say 80% throttle to try and limit spin then that's the end of LC and you're stuck trying to feather the throttle to limit spin manually.

What happens if you use your US launch control and just keep your foot planted, does it eventually sort itself out or do you just get spin, spin and more spin?

Thanks It's been added to the FAQ sticky, which if you've not seen is definitely worth a look at.

Yeah, I just finally tried this (7,000 miles) and while LC works exactly as indicated, it simply smokes the tires. No point whatsoever, if I used this to race someone from a light, I'd just sit there spinning. I can't comprehend how LC in Europe would work if it revs to 3,500-4,000rpm, if mine is smoking tires at 1,500rpm. Seems like it would be better to ease off throttle or and feather or something...

All you US M5's - what do you guys do? After market wide wheels with stickier tires?

Scoopz,

Many thanks for taking the time to document the whole process step by step including pics & vids. I don't think we could ask for any better. Well maybe an inperson private lesson in a demo so as not to tear up our own car! LOL!

My question being, has any US Spec M5 or M6 owner found a BMW enthusiast / import mods company that knows how to reprogram the US Spec ECU to Non US Spec Standards enabling Launch the REAL Launch Control, raise the 150mph limit etc!!

Michael

Thanks, I'm glad to see my research is still useful and appreciated.

I'm almost positive one of the US tuners (and more than likely a board sponsor) has posted on the forum somewhere about reprogramming US cars with full Euro LC but can't for life of me remember which one, sorry.

All I will say is that if you do get Euro spec LC use it sparingly, my clutch retired after ~20 launches.
