M-att, I've not heard anything at all yet about a BMW snap-in for the iPhone 3G I'm afraid, I'm not sure how the snap-ins interface with the *new* style iDrive, I'm hoping they're working on a new snap-in for the 3G that will allow iPhone charging and iPhone/iPod interface with the iDrive at the same time.

I squish my 3G into the original cradle every now and again when it's battery is low, I have a cigarette socket/cable charger for the 3G that just lives in the pockets on the back of the passenger seat but it's too much hassle to get to it so it's never been used.

I’ve just checked out the compatibility chart on BMW's site and it shows both the iPhone and iPhone 3G as being compatible.

There does appear to be a new BMW snap-in adapter specifically for the iPhone 3G now and from what I’ve read, BMW appear to have integrated a USB fly lead out of the new snap-ins that then integrates with the USB audio interface (if you have that option on your car) to allow simultaneous phone charging, bluetooth connectivity and music access via the stereo/iDrive. So there are now 4 snap-ins for the iPhone, the original iPhone one, the original iPhone one with integrate USB audio, a new iPhone 3G one and a new iPhone 3G one that integrates USB audio.

Bluetooth telephone audio connection
To enable the use of the audio player built into specific bluetooth phones, BMW offers the optional Bluetooth telephone audio connection for all new BMW’s (excluding X3). This allows you to use the mobile phone as a combined device for telephone calls and audio playback. This feature is only compatible with mobile phones where we offer a specially developed snap-in adaptor with a USB connection (please refer to compatibility chart). It also requires the car to be fitted with the optional USB audio interface.
Unfortunately I don’t have the USB audio interface in my car but I’m starting to wish I did now.

I also notice that this option is currently only available for the iPhone, all the other handsets listed have a “-” in these columns.

That's great for folks with the integrated USB (2008+?)

For pre-USB cars, I still advocate the spec dock ashtray dock... IMHO, the ashtray dock is more convenient than something in the console storage compartment.

I have 07 car, believe it doesn't have USB. So i guess only option is go with adaptor in CD Changer? so i can listen music and using phone from iPhone. Still not clear how exactly each function, phone & music, will communicate each other..

I like that ashtray dock since it's not in use and also neat cover when it's not in use but just docking parts cost over $150+ ? very expensive.
