Appears to be a physical connection in the center of the connector block:
That's the underside of the snapin cradle so that still doesn't tell me how the iPhone connects to the cradle antenna-wise?

The antena connection is the little round circle in the middle of the plug
Duh, I know that. The point I am making is that this is where the snapin adapter makes the connection between itself and the car, it does not mean the iPhone connects the same way to the adapter. To put it another way does one of the pins of the iPhone bottom connector carry the antenna signal?

does one of the pins of the iPhone bottom connector carry the antenna signal?
Yes that would be my assumption, the Nokia's utilise one or more of the pin connectors on the base of the phone for the aerial connection and my first guess would be the same method for the iPhone as opposed to induction.
