Ordering question : Enhanced Premium Sound and Multi-function Seats?

Hi All,

I have driven the 550i and don't think that is the right car for me, I need something a little sportier so I am heading down to my local dealer tomorrow for a test drive with the M5. If I like it and the numbers work for me, I can see myself ordering one and am looking at the following options:

Black Saphire
Portland Brown full leather
HUD
Comfort Access
Heated Steering Wheel
Ipod

The two items I cannot decide on are 1) Multi-function seats and 2) Enhanced Premium Sound.

The standrad stereo sounds pretty adequate (13 speakers) and I am not really a music guy but I do like to crank it up now and then. Is this option worth it? At an extra $750 it does not really break the bank but if it is not worth it I don't want to waste the money.

The normal M sports seats also seem very nice. Not sure if it is worth an extra $1900 for the active/multi-function seats? I will track this car so they may be handy for that, but I am quite big (6.4", 230 pounds) and a friend with an RS4 has said the "squeezed into your seat" function is not ideal for a bigger guys.

What do you recommend?

Any "must have " option I am missing?

Thanks! Great board by the way, I have been reading heavily for the last couple of weeks

I have both... definetly get the seats! My friend has the normal sport seats and I love the way mine feels so much more.... As for the premium sound...I have it but cant really compare it to my friends as he changed his system to aftermarket. Good luck!

I dont have the enhanced sound on my 2006, but the sound is definitely the best I have heard, (although I am coming from a Chrysler Sebring, lol) and I like to crank up the tunes (Hard Rock, some Rap) anywhere I go. I would say for a normal music listener, the regular stereo is sufficient enough.

As for the Multifunction seats, I am 6'5", 190 lbs, and its not an imposition, and I dont have any experience of anyone in my car (bigger or smaller) that has complained about it. If I were to re-spec my car, I probably wouldn't have spent the extra money on it. It is cool but not that big of a selling point to me.

HUD and Comfort Access are a must; they are the best options in my mind. I have a different MP3 player than an ipod and just use the AUX jack and it works well for me, so I cant give input on the ipod adapter. I didnt get the option for heated steering wheel... Ah, MY2006!

If you are worried about the options you are forgetting, I live in Minneapolis and the rear seat heating has come in handy a couple times, I love it!

John.. I'm 6'2'' and I really appreciate the multi-funciton seats. The seat includes additional shoulder support that is beneficial for the upper torso - the seat bends forward right below the sholder blades to support your upper body / head. I love the seats. Plus if / when you get the full leather - which is believe is required if you get the 2008 multifunction seats - the leather interior is so much nicer - ihmo.

I have taken delivery

There is a major difference in the Premium Sound that is standard and the optional system for $750. Gustav did a indept thread on it, so search DIRAC Sound System and it should come up. I would get HD Radio and Rear Shades, but that's me.

I also appreciate the mulit-function seats - love the way they squeeze you when you get in the twisties. For the track, I would manually adjust them tight and then keep them passive. Also, I find the cooling function actually does work - much better than MB anyway.

Thanks for all the quick replies guys, very much appreciated.

I read Gustav's in-depth review on the enhanced audio and it does sound very impressive. I am amazed that BMW does not sell this a little more, i.e. give some more info on their website beyond the very basic description.

Regarding the seats, do they automatically come with the ventilation function? I can't seem to find this seperate option on bmwusa.com when choosing the various options in the "build your car" feature.

Thanks!

John... when you get the full merino leather- you automaticaly get the perforated and vented seats. again - I love them. Here is an example in black.

See how these seats can bend forwards / backwards under the sholder blade.
