UPDATE:

My dealer (UK) just called me back to say he's been chasing the cradle and been informed it's still "under test fit" with BMW and not going to be available for a while with no indiciation of release dates...all I seem to do with the iPhone is wait....wait for the launch...wait for the software updates....wait for the car cradle...wait for 3rd party applications (Feb I hope)...such is life.

Scoopz, what year is your car?
Reason I am asking is because I still have bluetooth connection problems.
What happens is when I pair the iphone with the car the phone operates properly, but once I turn the car off, the next time I get in , it will connect, but as soon as a call comes in and I try to answer it, it then fails and it asks me to pair the phone.
Really weird.
I have a Jan 2006 M6 with bluethooth, but I was wondering that perhaps I need to have the bluetooth in the car changed to a newer one?
Sorry for troubling you, but I am trying to find out as much as I can so I get to the bottom of it.
Cheers.

If you have the iPod interface you can just plug it in to that connected. It will charge the phone, you can control iPod functions from iDrive/steering buttons and bluetooth phone will still work.

By the way the for the armrest craddle mentioned above one would need all three parts mentioned above. But if you already installed one for a previous phone (like many of us did for RAZR) you should be able to just swap out the iphone specific part.

My car is a Dec 2005 build but has been updated with CIP software to v27.

My iPhone connection in the car is by no means perfect, I have to turn off the wifi everytime I get in the car otherwise answering calls can be a little tempramental, pressing the steering wheel button will answer the call but the caller can't hear me and I can't hear them. I end up having to grab the phone, press the audio source button and use the built in loudspeaker. If I answer a call after I've turned wi-fi off then it works ok 90% of the time. I'm sure that if you try to answer a call by sliding the answer slider on the phone itself, the phone assumes that since you have the phone in your hand you want to redirect from the car kit to the phone so I always answer with idrive controller at present (somebody else mentioned answering with steering wheel button problematic but I can't confirm this).

I'm also using a non-hacked/jailbroken iPhone and the above is true for v1.1.2 and v1.1.3 software on the iPhone. Unfortunately our previous hopes (here) that 1.1.3 would bring better bluetooth connectivity didn't happen but with the current SMS bug introduced with 1.1.3 (here) Apple are fixing that and a few other bugs introduced with 1.1.4 sooner than expected...

All numbers sync to the idrive correctly (500+) and the signal meter works too.

I'd suggest getting the CIP updated to the latest version by BMW.

The cradle is not a hard wired connection, it is purely for external antenna and charging. The connection to iDrive is still through bluetooth and this as far as i know has always been the case with the snap-in adapters. My 6230i in the car at present just sits on charge as a backup phone, unless I turn on the bluetooth the car can't see it.

That is interesting.. I noticed after upgrading to 1.1.3 that I no longer have to turn off wifi for the phone to work properly with bluetooth. I don't know what software version my M5 has.

Good luck I hope you get this fixed.

Yes,

The Iphone snap in will work on most new BMW's.

Parts needed are:

84 21 6 946 075 - snap in adapter / Eject box
51 16 7 060 175 - Eject box frame
84 10 9 182 792 - Snap In adapter (AKA cradle)

Sad thing is that the snap in is on backorder...

Don't all M5's come with 1. and 2. above and it's just 3. that we need?

When I bought the Nokia 6230i snap-in adapter I simply took out the blanking snap-in and pushed the Nokia one into place. I didn't need to buy the eject box frame etc they were already there. I bought the same Nokia snap-in for my sister's 1-series and that was all she needed too, just took out blank and snapped into place.

Is it somehow different with the iPhone snap-in, does it require a newer, non standard surround to all the other snap-ins? I find that hard to believe, perhaps it's for much older models that have no form of phone-preparation at all?

UPDATE:
Just read on another forum

Although the us-spec E60s come with Bluetooth they don't come with the tray that will allow mounting of a snap-in.
So it seems along with crippled launch control and HUD not standard, the US market has been short-changed again...altough you do get your services and maintenance included so don't grumble, plus you get a coin tray instead!
