Engine oil

Hi,

Can someone advise what engine oil BMW is using for M5 e60? Does different country / state use different brand and grades? Say in Europe and USA may varies.

Thanks.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

My M5 have just arrived China port waiting for custom clearance. Should be ready for delivery sometime at beginning of September. Just need to know what other owners are using to make sure they don't use the wrong oil on mine.

If possible use the Castrol 10w-60 motor oil. If you can't find one using 5w-50 motor oil from big name brand oil company should be fine as viscousity of the oil is quite similar.

Seriously folks

Castrol TWS is officially deleted in Europe and replaced by CASTROL Edge 10W/60.
There is also a Castrol Edge 10W/60 Sport, which appears to have the same API spec etc.

The one without Sport in its name has a specific reference to BMW M cars on the pack. The Sport one does not.
They are the same price in case you were wondering. GBP 14 per litre in UK around double the US price.

If all else fails you can RTFM as the IT world used to say.

(Read The Fine Manual or similar) which gives a fair bit of info on what BMW would prefer you put in your car.
