I get mine today, will let you know if I also get this same issue. Thanks

Got mine installed and got the same error when I started it up for the first time.
After driving around the block, I stopped, turned off the car, turned it back on and the error was gone and has been fine since.

Sorry 905RMP32V1x, you just got the dreaded engine malfunction warning that I've been dealing with since v25 was installed. BMW traced it down to a measurement out of parameters coming from the MAF sensors. They replaced my MAF sensors, held the car overnight and checked it in the morning and got the same error. BMW Germany techs were working with them overnight each of the couple nights, and the end results was them being told to have me swap the stock airboxes back in, and if the problem persists they would continue researching the problem.
The only solution that may work is to get onto updated software. I haven't gone there yet, as I need to know what is in v27 so I can come up with a problem or two for my SA to qualify my car for an update.
So here is how to get rid of the error:
1) Start your car up, wait just a few seconds and start bringing up the RPM to about 2000-2500 and back to idle. Do this a couple times.
2) Give it a couple quickly RPM shots up to about 3,000rpm or so. You might actually here a "click" when you let off the throttle from this. Not sure what that sound is, but might have something to do with the choke?
3) You should be good to go! 1) and 2) above should take you about 20-30 seconds, that is it.
If you start the car and just let it idle there, or start and go into gear without doing this little warm up I described, you WILL get the error almost every time. From there, I just drive normally (it doesn't appear to limit anything except the max RPM) until the engine is mostly warmed up, and at the next chance I have I shut down the car and restart, and all is good just like you experienced.

It went off after the car was warm. I didn't let it warm up this morning when it went on. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Guys, don't bug K&N about the error unless you want to return the kit. I've been dealing with this for months, and decided that the performance gains (and induction noise gains) are worth this little procedure above. I've been doing it for months and the only time I ever get the error is when I don't do it. K&N tested a newer 2008 M5 that had just cleared it's initial break-in check, and go no errors. This was only about 5 weeks ago. My guess is v25 software changed MAF sensor parameters, and v26 and later (possibly even later versions of v25) may have backed these out after my car was in and the error was analyzed by BMW.
I'm crossing my fingers that those of you who definitely know you have v26 or v27 software do NOT get the error with the intakes. Then, we'll just have to figure out how to get our nice SA's to update the car when we really have no other problem than this...with an aftermarket part. I'm sure v27 will have an "official" bulletin and you can come up with something on there to help your SA get the software update.

Thanks James,
So if by chance the engine malfunction error light comes up, doesn that make the car in some sort of limp mode and lose Power?

Just thought I'd add that my car is currently at V24. During my last visit to the service dept I was told that the V25 had some "issues" and they were not installing it anymore and waiting for a newer release. This was six months ago... I didn't buy the whole "issues" story, but I'm glad the K&N works well with V24...

Its really no big deal. This morning the light came on once and was gone when I restarted it. I'm interested to see what Darren's dyno shows. Especially since he has a vented hood. The filters are perfectly positioned under the vents. It looks like it should help.

Outstanding - you and James should get some type of award.
I'm especially interested in the increase in sound as well. Give us your impression. I'm kicking myself for installing the BMC filters when I could be replacing them with these %$!# K&N pieces.
I'm going to tape my fingers together...until I see your results... .

Big improvement in sound. You can really hear it rev after about 3K. But not too loud. If you liked removing your resonator you'd love this.
