        Advice on performing burnout?

Question - w/ SMG transmission is there a way to do a M5 burnout? I cannot seem to get my 06 M5 to do it. I've taken off the traction control etc.. and even tried to brakes then putting on the gas.. nothing seems to work.

I can get it to break traction a bit around some corners but thats about it nothing like a burnout..

My 2007 with SMG just sits there and spins if I floor it. I actually have to back off to keep the car straight. Not sure why your car would be any different.

Assuming you are already driving in the higher power setting? If not, set your M Drive to P500S, DSC off, S6, and whatever your pleasure on EDC. Then just floor it. Mine breaks loose from a dead stop, rolling start, straight, turning, whatever. Tires are brand new too. I actually try not to spin them, but have fun if that's your thing.

Maybe reset your clutch so it engages a little better if you have some miles on it.

DSC OFF, 500 HP, and just floor it. Mash the gas without hesitation. You'll burn tires. 2006 stock M5 here, and no problem with this task.

I figured you did. That would have been an obvious answer. You get the warning light on your dash the DSC is off, correct?

The computer is engaging that clutch for you, so feel it engaging through your right foot and dump it. Blip the throttle then floor it. If that doesn't work, try reseting your clutch. Maybe it's worn out a little and slips when you punch it?

Like I said, I'm not even trying to do it. It just happens if I floor it and don't back off. I can't imagine any reason why our cars would react differently.

Mash it, dump it and then step on the break immediately to get a power stand. DSC off P500

Can't believe that I am contributing to the destruction of tires for no good reason.....

After you get a good spin going in 1st, shift to 2nd gear.....2nd gear has enough speed to ensure the tires never get grip.

        Hard on the tranny.

Don't you want to burn rubber in a meaninngful cause? Like tracking or even drag racing?

How about tire pressure? if it is low, it might be the cause that you can't do a burnout. just a thought..........

Not sure of the exact speed required, but I think it is something over 40mph. I do it occasionally on the highway at 60mph or so and it keeps the shifts smooth. Sorry for posting without a hard fact on speed required.

Anyway, somewhere that you have enough space to coast at speed without someone coming up behind you...put the car in neutral and pull both shifter paddles in and hold for a few seconds. You won't hear or see anything, but it resets the clutch to compensate for wear.

Try a search, you'll get a better answer than what I gave you, but that's the idea.
