Pickup at Isringhausen in Springfield, Il. I flew from NYC to get the beast. One of the best trips of my life. Drive back to NYC was great---broke her in well and obeyed procedure. Now that the 1200 mile service is done, I added E race oval tips. First impression was i made the car too loud but now I love the system. When i start the car in my NYC garage, bystanders hold their ears in disbelief.:eek:oohhh: Once the car warms, it settles into a smooth prrrr that screams when pushed....simply awesome. As far as the car---everyone talks about smg and how driving in NYC is likely horrible...i absolutely love smg and find it to be phenomenal. At first i did not trust the tranny and the shifts and reluctantly would remove my foot from the pedal upon shifts--now i let it do the work and trust it...most of the time, if in the city, i find i have it in p500s in s4 with edc on comfort so to avoid jarring from city bumps. I am of the opinion that despite smg being ignorantly criticized, there is the potential for improvement that will be accomplished with DSG.. my biggest complaint with the car thus far are the noises; i had an annoying windshield whine that was repaired and fixed at the 1200 mile service....but the right door creaks like a barn door at times and i have a rear decklid rattle that needs to be fixed asap...my sa in greenwich, ct has been great and told me to bring the car to be checked. Why so many creaks and noises with this car? thanks again to Nick at Isringhausen for making the purchase so easy and enjoyable.

Very nice.

Now tell me, it DOES feel different now that you're looking at your own M5 , right?

Succes with the break-in...

I agree with bodaddy, it does look better everytime I see it.

Let me know if you ever decide to mod it, and if I can help you out with that ;)

Great looking car, and I hope you enjoy it!

Congrats!

I remember talking with you prior to the purchase and I'm glad everything worked out well. Congrats on getting it home smoothly and getting those break-in miles out of the way.

I added E race oval tips.
Glad to hear you're enjoying the volume! I want to get the same exhaust, except my wife went ballistic on me as I was about to place the order. Something about "wah wah wah $100K car not good enough wah wah wah". I need to find her a piece of jewelry or something.

Couldn't agree more. Reading some stuff in magazines and even on this board I thought I was going to be driving around like a bucking bull. Think the SMG can be just as smooth as a clutch pedal with some seat time (although I agree there is room for improvement).

but the right door creaks like a barn door at times
I find the squeaks a little annoying too. I did a search and found a bunch of posts on the door topic, but a quick tip, wipe lubricant over the door felts. Seems to be a common problem. I also get this awful whistle noise at certain speeds I would not disclose publicly, but I can't exactly ask the service adviser to duplicate the condition. Guess I'll have to live with that one.

re:

take your car in for the mysterious windshield, high pitched whistle...my sa at greenwich helped me out with it although i literally brought my car in with the widnshield taped...i think i am bringing it back today to take care of the decklid rattle...thanks again...if you want to check out my car some time with the e race system, let me know...have you seen the new full system by aa?--that looks pretty good and seems a little less "loud"

How did you talk your way through the windshield whistle?? "Hypothetically...at certain hypothetical speeds, my car makes this hypothetical loud noise. You know anything about that?"hiha

Seriously though, you found the problem and had it fixed?

I'd love to hear the E-Race setup. I work downtown if you are ever in this neck of the woods or maybe we could catch one of these 'drives' I see posted every now and then. The NY guys seems to put stuff together. I haven't seen the AA system. I'll check it out though, thanks for the tip!

re:

yes...at about 60 mps there was a high pitched whistle that i located coming from the windshield...i took blue painter's tape and taped it in sections..i located mine at the upper right...i brought it in for the 1200 mile service with the tape on to make it easy for them. try that and let me know if its your windhsield...i have heard stories about sunroofs and side mirrors as well so this will be a good litmus

I'll try that, although my problem didn't kick in at that speed. I'll be out at Pocono for some 'driver ed' in two weeks. I'll try tape around the windshield and sunroof until I can diagnose where the noise comes from. It didn't sound like an area around the mirrors, but you never know. Thanks! cherrsagai
