My 2001 M5 used far less oil than my 2000 M5. My bet it was a function of both better manufacturing tolerances and not pushing it as hard due to being over the intoxication of new power. The clutch quickly started buring up on my MY2000, so I took it easier on the newer one.

I suspect something similar here.

Hi pvr, I spent the winter in Michigan and drove the car quite aggressivelly there. Now I am in Florida and drive as aggressivelly as before, temperatures here around 90 F. I guess it depends on each car, I am lucky that mine doesn't seem to require much oil. I am sure that it's not a SMG x Manual issue. Few weeks ago driving from the midwest, a 1500 miles one-way trip done in two days, the oil moved only from 0.9 to 0.7.

Boys, let me help you.....weather you have an SMG or a 6 speed doesn't have anything to do with how much oil your engine consumes...some suck mucho oil, some not,,

Agree that it isn't necessarily the SMG vs Manual, unless SMG users inherently drive at higher rpms. Also agree that highway miles use less oil than running up and down the gears. I run to redline multiple times almost every time I take a drive . Can't help myself. Just more fun that way. Would also add as an aside that my oil consumption is way down overall after the 15k maintenance. Don't even keep track anymore, but it might be somewhere around 1 liter every 4k miles in summer, vs 5k in winter.

A brain, a brain, my kingdom for a brain....

Interesting, no one's mentioned the impact of break-in procedures with regard to oil consumption.
