That's the infamous Turn 10 -- one of the worst places on the track to go off. Those marks are the result of going wide right, and trying to save it back onto the track instead of just staying off the right side. The correction usually shoots the car across the track to the left (leaving the marks you see) and into the tire wall. There was a Noble One Lap of America video posted some time ago showing this unwelcome maneuver.
I love how you skipped the commentary when I was on YOUR tail!
Yes, just to set the record completely straight, Jason was right on my tail . . . during a warm up lap. And another E60 was right on his:

Wow! those are great photo's. I'm doing a track day this week and can only hope they have someone doing the same.
Anyway, I thought this photo is a great prelude to a thread I'm about to start which compares the E60 M5 to the E46 M3 - both on and off the track.
I can recall following a few slower guys in the E60 and wondering what they must be thinking: "man that looks like a truck in my F***ing rear view mirror". Just look at the driver of the M3 - I'm sure he's fixed on the rear view mirror - not the road ahead!

Traction control on or off? What are your tire presures cold?
