Happy 7th anniversary with M5

I ordered my '00 M5 in the spring of '99 and it was delivered 7/00.

What a great car.

It has 82,000 miles. It looks and runs like new. It is still on the original clutch, battery, belts, and bulbs. I did the first brake job this year at 77k miles, replacing the factory pads and disks with Axxes and Euro floaters.

95% of my driving is within 20 miles of home. I am getting 17.1 mpg and using a quart of oil about every 5k miles. No wrecks ever, and the biggest repair so far was a Vanos unit under warranty a long time ago. I get about 25k miles on each set of tires.

Hope to keep it for another seven years. I am planning on taking it to a local independent BMW racing shop at 100k miles to have clutch and bushings replaced, brake fluid flush, trans and diff oil changed, and possibly headers installed. Only mods to date are X pipe, Tri Flows, and aftermarket wheels.

Mine was delivered in 12/99 - 140,000 miles - a few troubles but, many smiles.

Congratulations! You obviously take care of your car!

You might consider changing your battery as a prophylactic measure. I replaced mine at the 5 year mark based on average life expectancy (but I also live in a hot climate and HATE being caught by a dead battery).

My beast, equally fun and reliable, is hitting the big 50 soon. My next inspection is inspection II, which will be covered under my maintenance agreement. I am tempted to replace the diff and tranny fluids, the O2 sensors and maybe the cam position sensors as well...did you do any of this?

Thanks for any advice.

When my car hit 55k, in conjunction with an I-2, 'proactively replaced every single fluid, filter, sensor, and all other "consumables" on the list; plus got a new battery. 'Made a world of difference. 'Highly recommend.
