Sat Nav screen

Hi guys,

my Sat Nav screen looks terrible, like it was cleaned with sand paper at one time!

Is it possible to replace the LCD screen alone or do I need to replace the entire unit?

I have the 16:9 version btw.

Any help would be very much appreciated,

Richie.

hi richie,
i had same problem with my screen.
if you carefully prise off trim around nav screen you can peel the protective layer of film from the screen, leaving the nice scratch free suface underneath.
i havn't managed to source some new protective film yet, (needs to be anti glare, really),
i'll keep you informed.
hope this helps
regards
G.P.

you can also use a plastic cleaner like plexus. You can mist some onto a microfiber and gently polish the screen.

Hi Richie,
hold your horses on peeling off original film.
I've found out that this film is polarised and you need it to be able to view display (isn't hindsight a wonderful thing).
i've ordered some polarised film from usa, .I'll let you know if it works.
regards

G.P.

Yes the screen can be replaced, just had it done by Alpine in their Allendale, NJ office. Do not clean the screen with Plast-X. Once the polarized film becomes scratched you have no choice but to replace the screen. The cost is $320.

You can get replacement screens. For example Sharp 6.5" TFT Display for navi systems BMW monitor on eBay, also, BMW, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 18-Jan-09 04:01:32 GMT) no idea how good they are.
