Sorry... MKIII to MKIV Question

First, let me say that I searched this forum, FAQ section, bimmernav and even sent a PM to a member who did the upgrade..... Please try not to flame too much .

Here's my question..... I have a 6/2002 production car. I would like to upgrade to MKIV..... Is it straight plug and play or does my production month/year have the trimble (sp?) where I have to get the antenna wire from behind the DSP requiring the removal of the CD changer, DSP, etc.???

Thanks in advance.

the question is which version you have now? mkII or III
if it is mkIII it should be plug and play. as far as i know your pruduction year should be mk III, so it should bevery easy to install.

I think I have III based upon the build date. How can I tell for sure? I just looked at the "brain" in the trunk and it does not say it on the face or on top......

Go to the Setup, in the top-right corner there will be two numbers showing, e.g. 3/61. The first number tellls you what MK you have.

Just checked..... 3 - 1/50. So I guess this confirms I have MKIII.

I have a 2002/6 as well (made on the 5th of June 2002) it had a Mk III which I have upgraded to the Mk IV.
Just plug and play. A good tool is a bicycle spoke.

Thanks for the input. Just so I am very clear, you did not have to locate the antenna wire from behind the dsp? thanks.

I'm not sure you're right about that, as I had to do no such thing from my mk2 to mk4 upgrade.

There is a separate gps receiver module for the mk2, that has an antennae wire going to it. When you move to the mk4, you no longer need the gps receiver module as it's built into the mk4 - you then just plug the antennae wire that used to be plugged into the gps receiver module directly into the mk4 unit.

Cheers
