Need Wheel Estimates

Guys,

I just want to make sure I am going about this as efficiently as possible.

Background: As a result of a valet parking incident (discussed in previous thread) my left rear wheel was scratched. Parking company admits responsibility and I get a letter requesting that I get two repair estimates. As far as I'm concerned, I getting a new wheel.

Plan: go to my and another BMW dealer to get "estimate" which will be for new wheel assuming their cooperation. I was thinking that perhaps I should order the wheel through Bekkers as they seem to be more familiar with the shade differences between 00 and 01 models. I am also assuming they aren't going to want the wheel back(although they would be entitled to it) so I will now have a spare

Any further advice appreciated. Thanks

Well, if you order from the dealer, and they get you the wrong shade, you can always ask them to order another one, and you can have them mount it on for you... then put it all into the quote, and have your valet place pay you back for everything... For Bekkers, if somehow they send you the wrong shade, you might have to pay for shipping it back... plus you probably will have to pay yourself for mounting it?

Good point point about the mounting costs, tfung. I am going to work this through the dealer. Thanks

TiGumz,

Based on my experience, no shop can fix and apply the correct color of shade to any new BMW wheels due to the exclusivity of their colors to BMW only. From what a couple of shops told me in this area, BMW holds the color key to the wheels so to get the original look, you have to purchase new original wheels from BMW. This in my opinion is smart of BMW.

Shops can get the color as close as possible but will be unable to match them. Your delearship should recommend for replacement due to this fact.

Good luck.
