Anyone else been watching this auction? Apparently the seller dropped the reserve yesterday, and the auction ended at $44,500 and change. Best I can tell, the high bidder did not confirm his bid after the reserve was changed, and that's why the results look as they do. Weird - it says "reserve not met" but the bid price matches the reserve price. I know this because I am the high bidder. Yeah, me.
Anyone have thoughts on this 2002 with only 6K miles? I emailed the seller and asked about oil changes and such and he replied with "service has been done according to the schedule" which I interpret to mean that the oil has never been changed. And he still owes money on the car. Seller claims to be a "collector" and has bought two new E60 M5s which is why he's selling. It all seems a little fishy to me, and I'm not inclined to follow-up on it, especially since the seller has not emailed me to finalize the deal.
Thoughts, suggestions, advice?
Thanks,
Michael

Reason: typo
In case you haven't bumped into threads of the following nature: be wary of ultra low mileage vehicles that come out of the southeast, which may have been DE (driving experience) cars out of Spartanburg.

Irish - no, I did not talk to the dealer. Usually they are of no help - and I suspect that the car has never darkened the door of the service department, not with 6K miles (and no oil changes).
Chowdah - I think it's unfair to label all Southeast cars as potential PC beaters. However, you make an excellent point, as any car could have originally been used in the performance center. I believe that BMW sells those later as "executive program cars". Seriously though, a CarFax should show BMW as the original owner in these cases right? So that would be a flag, and then you could run the service history on the car and if it had twelve clutches replaced in the first 5000 miles, then you'd have a pretty good idea where it came from.
Considering the auto financing companies I've dealt with will only finance up to wholesale, that's going to be a lot of cash that the buyer is going to have to come up with.
Then again, it never ceases to amaze me (in a hopeful way), the age and disposable income of some of my fellow board members.

Well the 1,200 mile service should have been done. If not, steer clear. I am sure there are board members who could run the VIN and get the service history.
Fully loaded? Ask if it has rear air bags and sun shades?
It says "motorized rear sunshade" but it also says "Nappa Leather" and the front seats are not the Nappa package. They are sport seats (I know this for a fact because I didn't want the Nappa which an M5 had I test drove and I liked the sport seats better so I looked specifically for that along with all other options for my ride). If a guy will lie about one thing, makes you think what's stoipping him from lying about anything else?

The warranty expired on 11/31/2005, which meant it was purchased on 11/31/2001- it is likely NOT a DE car if it was sold to him that early.
It is also NOT a 'bmw warranty'. It is easycare.

A
It does! Look at the pics, and you can see it has rear shades and the rear airbags plus it has PDC. I think this is in fact a fully loaded 2002 M5. The only thing I see in the pics to give me pause are the surroundings it is pictured in and the date not being set on the Nav screen showing 2006.

Looks very nice from the pictures. Funny in the write up that the seller disclosed scratches on the wheel liner (under bumper). Gee - what an unusual problem! (NOT!)
