V8 sound [Advice on aftermarket exhausts?]

I have owned a 2001 M5 for about 2 years now and love it. I have had very few problems and wounder how could a more perfect car be made. Now that i have enjoyed a steathy supercare for a while I am ready to hear the v8 engine roar. I considered the Dinan exhaust but it seems somewhat overkill sine all I waunt is a louder better exhaust note. I am curious as to the effectiveness of just replacing the mufflers to give a better louder sound. If so what would be a good muffler for the M5. Can Dinan just do mufflers, what about Borla, Magnaflow, the list goes on . ANy advice is appreciated

I don't know about just mufflers but a Borla cat-back can be found for $1400 and would make the M5 sound great. The only thing I've heard that might sound louder is a Tubi Rumore Plus cat-back system and those are closer to $3000

You can easily cut off your OEM mufflers and add Any you want.

Which is louder, and which is better is subjective. Do you like the american muscle sound? Or do you want it to have a European performance sound? Do you care about raspiness?

Searching on any of those above will yield some sound clips.

An alternative could be to just cut out your resonators (after the cats/before the exhaust cans) and add an x pipe. This will increase sound.

Your best bet is to hook up with some local members/enthusiasts and "hear for yourself" what each brand sounds like- inside the cabin and outside.

Otherwise, like many before- you may buy a set of mufflers only to find yourself selling em to buy a different muffler. Money no object- so be it. Money an object- due diligence just paid for itself.

Dinan IS just mufflers. Also have larger diameter tips. 'Don't know what you meant by overkill.

I'm sure everyone is partial to their own but I'll put a vote in for Eisenmann Sport mufflers. The 83mm tips look good and sound just as good. Judging from your sig, are you a dentist?

Is who a dentist? By the way, I'm from Charlotte also.

Oh ok, I was wondering because I'm a dental tech. I used to live off Albemarle Rd and my mom lives off of Providence Rd, I am currently stationed in Florida but I will be moving back to Charlotte in a few years. I visit every 4-6 months. Where in Charlotte are you?

I'm a dentist on Providence Rd. near downtown and live in Myers Park.

Cool. Maybe we can meet-up next time I'm in town...that's 3 things we have in common. Hey, I need some new brake pads for the beast...what do you think about retro-molar pads?? Just kiddin'

I had sebring's on a former car of mine. Was great sounding and one of the best "tips."

I considered these, but could not find a vendorhmmm

Ah-HA! *Nobody* has, so they're the red-headed stepchild of the muffler threads. I wouldn't trade them for anything. I heard some Dinans the other day (possibly with the resonators removed? definately had headers), and they were seriously loud and raspy. Now, I'm not against loud & raspy, but it just doesn't seem right on *my* car. One of these days I'll find a geek that can record/post what they sound like.

Raspy V8 = No X pipe, No resonator, two Flowmasters, two PEPBoys dual tip
I'm sure you could get a V8 tone out of that.

Eisenmann race....... with x pipe like i had its load when you want it to be and quite enought when you want it to be and i get a **** load of complements on the sound of my m5 and i scare my fair amount of people when i want to

Is that dirt? it looks like a cat walked on it:eek:oohhh:

I was behind a Nissan 350z the other day and noticed the high pitch rev, I'm into that kind of sound.
