Window Switch Not Working?

I recently got my 1997 528i back from the body shop because of a front end collision. They ended up re-painting the 2 front doors for a better paint match and by doing so they obviously had to remove the doors.

The problem is when I got the car back the drive side window will no longer auto roll up when I press the button down all the way. Now I have to hold the button the entire time in order for the window to roll up.

I complained to the body shop and they told me it is probably coincidence and issues like this are simply due to the age of the car [1997].

My question is when they removed the door is there something that they could have done that would have caused the switch not to function correctly such as disconnecting wires?

Lastly I found this part:

If I buy that part would it fix the problem? Easy job to install?

Thanks for your help.

I would tend to go with coincidence as well, but would suggest you verify.

The window switch in the M5 door is simply a press fit - if you take a small flathead screwdriver or putty knife below the window lockout switch and lift up you can remove the whole assembly - not sure if yours is the same but I would be so. On the back there should be 3 connectors if I remember correctly. You should undo each of these and check for bent pins - if installed improperly it is entirely feasible that they bent a pin over and it is no longer contacting.

If that isn't the issue (if you need help undoing the connectors let me know and I will post pics - they aren't exactly obvious as to how they come off) then the above part looks right, but you should confirm at www.realoem.com. Enter your VIN number and then go to the section on windows to check the part numbers...

I am not a big believer in coincidence. If it worked when you left the car with them, it should work when they return it.

I would guess (but don't know) that the one touch up and down have relays. Does one touch down work? If so, I would guess a relay is bad since the windows otherwise work. Hopefully, someone with more knowledge can chime in.
Regards,
Jerry

The electrical of a "one-touch" tends to be fully integrated - he is unlikely to find a separate relay to go after. The circuit isn't terribly complicated, but it isn't something your average person is going to understand, either.

As I said in my previous post, once he rules out a bent pin he might as well replace the assembly.
