2002: Sterling Gray or Le Mans Blue?

I thought a poll would be interesting between the two 'extreme' colors for 2002. (not including Imola red)
I always thought that if I got a Beast I would get Le Mans hands down... but this Sterling Gray is so damn cool!!

What do you guys think?

Duncan

Sterling Gray:

Le Mans Blue:

(the pictures don't do either one justice)

My wife and I were able to see Sterling Gray on a Z3 at the dealers lot (BMW of Nashville.) It was awesome! Very deep look to it and interesting changes in different light/angle of view.

Received "the call" last week (about 4-6 months EARLIER than I was led to believe) and specced it out like this:

Sterling Gray/Caramel luxury interior
-PDC
-M-audio
-Split/Fold rear seat

SG, SG, SG!

Sterling Grey is so good looking! I think this pic can do it justice, don't you think? It's as close as it can be to the Chrome Shadow color under some lighting conditions.

If I am to get a '02 M5, this color would be my choice.

Go for sterling gray , IMO , if i was to order a new car , i'll get BMW Individual color , i don't know which one , and also individual leather , i just thought of pre-ordering the V10 or whatever the next-gen M5 will be , with individual both interior and exterior , but i don't know , because if the new 5-series are going too look how the spy-photos look , i'll heavily consider RS6 with man trans or maybe the new RS8 if it comes out , but the RS6 is already in production i think , and even if not you know what it looks like , and also i'm selling my porsche and i'll probably pre-order the maserati spider or take a second hand 355 spider.
Althought i hate to admit it , i always loved bmws , and i always will (unless they re-design all of them to look like a piece of shi*)
but you see , audi and merc make new sport cars with turbos / superchargers and i think that bmw has to go that way if they want to keep up , because these technology in NA engines is amazing ,but super-expenisve and with getting like 107 hp/liter like the M3 you just can get much low end torque , and a charger makes sure of that , and how they are going to keep up with merc's 475 hp? I guess 6 liters of displacement is at least when they'll decide to go for NA engine and i don't think a NA engine can match new merc's 700NM , because it'll have to be at least 6.5 l , and that's too big for a 5-series don't you think so?

Just thought that I would re-inner ate that I am in no way close to buying an M5. I'm a university student who can barely pay his entire way through that… hahah

I just wanted to know what you guys thought of the comparison of the colors.

I cant wait for the day when I can actually give this some serious thought… one of these days, one of these days…

M5Laser, I am an university student as well. My goal is to be able to purchase a M5 within the next 5 years. So that puts me in line to getting the next generation one, but if the styling is not to my taste, I am going to look for a good condition used E39. For now, it's going to be studying hard and doing well. Coming to the board to read all this interesting info really alleviates all the anxiety, right? Or it might work the other way in making you want one right away!

Well I log onto this board about 10 times a day and it does help me get my mind off things. It gives me a reminder of why I work hard and gives me something to aim for.

Although right now I want a M5, M3, Boxster S, and a ML 55 AMG…. But I know that this really isn't realistic so I don't spend too much time worrying about it

I'm in Computer Science now and plan on doing business as well, but I can't imagine buying a Beast any time soon. I think I'll save up my money and use it to help finance a business or just invest it. Only after I'm financially 'comfortable' will I reward myself. But anything can happen…

The lottery here is $20 million…someone's gotta win it

M5Laser: FYI, I had a ML55 before I got the M5. I had it for only 6 months...I didn't like it very much. Too much body roll if you ask me. Even my old Jeep GC before that handled better. It was pretty fast in a straight line though. Get the X5 4.6is instead. It handles better and is faster off the line too! Anyways I sold the ML55 and got the M5 instead. Best move I ever made!

Jason

P.S. Like you, I always dreamt about owning a M5...it wasn't until recently that I was able to fully realize this dream of mine! To own a ML55 and then a M5! My next dream car is a Ferrari 360 Spyder!

LOL WoW!! That statement sure rings a bell w/ me!!

6 years ago, I had 2 BMW 8 series brochur, one I posted on the ceilingl of my room (BMW 850 csi), directly above my bed, so it will be the first and the last thing I see everyday/night.

The other one is always in my back-pack w/ my books. When I get damn tired studying in the Library @ 12:00 am, I'd pull out the catalog along w/ my smokes and coffee. Go out into the cold air, light-up a smoke and sip on my Joe. Looking at the pictures of 850, I'd say to my self, "...I will never forget how I hard I worked..."

I know... I know... what a "loser"!! It should've been a picture of a girl of something ... But I swear to my self that I wasn't going to be distracted and that includes dating.

Ahh!!! You guys will never want an M5, just like I no longer have any interest in the 850's. You guys will get the 2006 M1 and will be laughing at the "dinosaur E39 M5"
