SS headers install-do anything else

From my understanding the motor is lifted out at least partially to install headers Is there anything else I should have done as preventive maintenance while she is out? I was thinking motor mounts?

Car is an 01 M5 w/ 58,300 miles.

Thx

Jeff

I believe only the Dinan headers require motor to be lifted.
not sure what else to check..

Engine lift is not needed for SS Headers install. But new motor mounts would be great!

You have to remove the sub frame to install the headers. It is almost imposible to get the headers in with the sub frame in place. I have installe dozens of headers on M5's and the best way - in my opinion the ONLY way to do it - is to drop the sub frame out of the car. It is also almost imposible to get to the last two rear upper header bolts with the sub frame removed - I would like to see how someone would do it with the frame in place. Hope this helps.

Thx for the replies. So when the sub frame is dropped what's a good idea to change out/inspect?

Jeff

Jeff

I would replace the power steering hoses for sure, as well as the motor mounts.

have you guys ever done supersprint headers? I understand with the dinan headers you need to drop the subframe, but a big selling point with the supersprints is that this is not needed, since they go in primary by primary.

Having not done it personally, however, i'd have to defer a real answer to a shop like Discovery auto or the M shop, other board sponsors who have installed quite a few supersprint systems.

When my new motor went in I asked to have the motor mounts replaced (even at my own expense). My SM insisted it wouldn't be necessary...
