Hi all! We are a new sponsor to the M5 Board. Let me tell you a little about my company and myself: I am a German certified Master technician with over 30 years of experiance in BMW and Mercedes Benz service and repair. I have been in the US since 1983 and have run my own business since 1989. We are specialists in BMW service and High Performance modifications and we know how to do it right. We are one of the highest ranking Dinan dealers in the nations and the only one in the south east who can install the S3 Super Charger Package on the E39 M5. I am opinionated, so bare with me, but my opinions are based on solid knowlege and experiance. Feel free to contact me any time for assistance or if you would like to bring your vehicle in for service or modifications. Please check out our web site: www.performingimports.com
Hope to hear from you soon.

"Is it the sounds that make a BMW a BMW? A BMW is designed to be heard, felt, experienced. So our engines sing. Our steering talks back. And we insist on offering manual transmissions in nearly all our models for drivers who crave them. The result is an almost telepathic oneness with the car. Just as surely as you can hear a BMW, a BMW hears you."
We do some of our own stuff, but in general we install only Dinan products. There is a reason for this and it is NOT because we are a Dinan dealer. Dinan just simply makes the best parts, end of story. And they stand behind their products 100%. I have installed everything out there, afterall I have been doing this for over 30 years now, so I do have some experience. Now when I am talking about performance products, I am only talking about U.S. tuners NOT european tuners, but there are good and bad ones there too. Alpina is the cream of the crop, ESS is the botton of the barrel. On the surface some things seem to be the same, but that is not always the case. That would be like saying all watches are alike. Sure on the surface they all tell time, but what is inside differs quite alot. And you will never buy a Rolex for Timex money. The same goes for performance parts. A good guideline is this: On todays vehicles the engine management systems are not really addaptive, meaning the mathematics are based on pre set scalles. All the sensor input information is corrolated to maps. If one or the other input does not fit in a particular box, the check engine light is turned. So if any fuel system modificatons - intake related and exhaust related - does not come with a software upgrade, I would stay away from it, but then I am a perfectionist. Some of this information is my opinion and some of it are facts.

Having worked on Cosworths for many years......I know exactly what you mean about people fitting upgrads to the induction and exhaust, without having the car live mapped or a suitable map upgrade. Nice to see someone who also does things properly.
I've just moved over to M Power, and will be delving into ecu upgrades/live mapping very soon.
The problem with tuning BMW and Mcars is trying to find out which mods actually work and fit properly,or if they are worth doing at all. Most of the junk out there for BMWs is simply a waste of money and will compromise the car,the quality of engneering/development is such on these cars that an aftermarket part is most likely inferior to the car itself.
The only proven way to tune one is the Dinan way, they put the required research and dvelopment in to their engine/chassis conversions and actually sell a quality product rather than blatantly sell items which are out of sync to the application.
Re mapping is my biggest gripe with N/A cars, you can bearly tell any difference once carried out and unless you have headers ect its simply a waste of money.
One UK company states near 550bhp for the E60M5,using a remap only, apparently they use some math formula to come to this figure rather than dyno the car.The charge for this is well over £500....10 BHP is a more likely estimate-at very most!
Hi Ron, and Welcome. With the chance to ask and expert regarding Dinan I'd love to know your thoughts on the mods made by original owner of 2002 m5 I bought recently: Dinan Exhaust and Intake and supposedly Stage 4 remap. Any trade offs I am missing? Also, on strong shift from 3rd to 4th at about 6000 rpm I am overdriving/spinning the clutch. Does this mean clutch is shot/soon to die? (36,000 miles and original as far as I know) Suggestions? Thanks for your expertise. (and strong opinions!)
