Claybar virgin

I bought some claybar from Griots and I finally got around to opening it up. This is the first time I ever came near the stuff. Never have I clayed a car. Well tonight I finally clayed the car then polished with 3M polish and threw on two coats of wax. I was amazed how smooth the paint was after claying. Wow, what a difference - like night and day. Then the wax...forget about it. Came out like a baby's arse. I'm a believer in this stuff. So if you haven't ever clayed a car, get too it. It makes a world of difference.

Yes yes, I use claybar for many years.. amazing stuff when it comes to taking off some crap off the paint.. It will not remove oxidation, but most of the "roughness" on our cars' paint is just dirt that gets stuck to the paint, and many people use polishing compounds to remove it which is an overkill..
I always used Mothers claybar..

I just gotta laugh....

I came to claybars late in life, and it felt like a religious conversion.... now I sing the praises like a true believer.

So, testimonial... First time using a clay bar. HOW MUCH TIME AND EFFORT DID IT ADD TO THE PROCESS?

(This just for the folks thinking it is hugely complex)

I am also a clay bar user and normally i do the ziplock bag test to check for some imperfection that even my hands can't feel...definitely a way to prep a car before waxing

I have been using Meguiars Quik-Clay for years. Remember the golden rule is use plenty of lubrication!

This is the stuff:

Always apply a quality wax after claying the car. I use Zymol Vintage glaze, but that's a whole different topic.

I *think* they may all come from the same source, so I wouldn't worry about "which one's better". I've used Zainos, but one of these days I'm gonna go to a body shop and see if they'll sell bigger pieces of the stuff. I've bought one in a store...not sure if it was Mothers or not...but the thing I don't like is that you have to buy the spray with it, not just the bar. I just use water, but soapy water might be better for someone who doesn't have 20 coats of Zainos on their car. Like Ard, I discovered the stuff late in life. It's fast, easy, dare I say- "fun"?, and it makes an amazing difference. Especially during spring...when you get tons of invisible tree sap on the car,as I discovered last night. The car *looked* fine, but felt like sandpaper. Of course it no longer does.

Funny the little yellow bars that comes in the Zaino package look IDENTICAL to the ones in the Mothers kit! (Seriously, why would anyone make their own clay.)

I go to an autobody shop and pick up a brand called 'ClayMagic"... big (200gram?) bars that I cut in half.

So, my 2003 M5 Was nicely "swirlied" by the previous owner.... and I have a bag full of supplies to start to "deswirly."

So.... Here is my plan... and I would LOVE any recommendation before I begin....

Good soap and water washing

Clay bar to remove any residue and grime.

Rubbing compound with a sponge

Polishing compound with a sponge

Carnauba wax

Another coat of Carnauba wax

Martini (not on the car)

Is this a good plan
