Cats and SS Resonators Problem?

I had the SS resonators/exhaust installed on 9/1. The dealer had a problem with the resonator pipe fitting just behind the cats(the holes were just 1/32" too small). The dealer did not have anything to stretch the resonator pipe so they drove it around town to muffler shops trying to find someone to stretch the resonator pipe. The car had no exhaust beyond the cats (which the tech said was deafeningly loud!! I would have loved to have heard it!).

Recently the "service engine soon" light came on and today the dealer is telling me that I need new catalytic converters (fortunately they are treating it as a warranty repair). My question is - could they have damaged the cats by driving the car around with no exhaust beyond the cats? If not, what could have caused the cats to go "bad"?

Thanks,

Barry

Barry, I haven't a clue, but I can ask my mechanic tomorrow when I drop off my BEAST to get "you guessed it" - SS resonator pipe installed. Man, I hope this is not a real issue? There are quite of us who have either already done the upgrade or are in process of doing it.

I will let you know what I find out from my mechanic?

Andy,

I really believe that the exhaust is not responsible for the cat problem. I haven't heard of any problems with other cat-back exhausts so it seems very unlikely it's the SS. BTW, you will be very pleased with the sound. It's no where near too loud or overbearing.

Thanks for you help,

Barry
