9. Take boot cd out and pop the navigation cd in and you are good to go.
10. Go to settings and hold the menu button for 10 seconds it will take you to a navigation setup screen, keep scrolling down, there is an option called perspective mode on the second page (means you scroll down all the options you see first).
11. Select that and turn it on. Then hit menu, navigation and map. Now when you go to change the map view, you can chose either North, Travel Direction or perspective view.

Has anyone gone to V32? Will either V31 or V32 work with MKIII systems?

SW 3 1-63 which was released with distribution version 22 in Aug 03 is apparently as good as it gets with the MK III. BMW seems to have stopped supporting updates after that.
Lots of Mk IVs available on ebay or on this board with DVD for around $500-600.

I put V29.1 on my MKIII yesterday and it seems to work fine. What are the number you wrote, I'm not familiar with those?

I think that V27 was the last update with anything new for Mk3 system. Updates after that have changes applicable to Mk 4.

I got my info from here: BMW Navigation System FAQ - Xoutpost.com

The table shows that the last update for the Mk III was a while back. The V22 or V31, etc refers to the distribution disk that has the software for all of the MK I, II, III, IV systems on it. Its better explained in the link in the part below the table with all the version info.

As you can see, after V22 all software for the MK IIIs stayed at 3 1-63
