To straight pipe or not to straight pipe?

I've done some extenstive research, and I'm leaning towards just deleting the mufflers and getting some piping and tips. Leaving the stock resonator and piping, the only thing I would change is deleting the mufflers and replacing them with piping and aftermarket tips. What kind of aftermarket tips should I get and how much should I be looking to spend for the labor?

My other concern at the moment is how bad the droning will be? The reason I got rid of my S2000 and purchased a luxury car was to have more comfort, but now the kid in me is screaming for some noise and I can't handle the stock sound of the M5 because I can't hear the music! I can handle some droning, but honestly, how bad will it be?

All your comments are welcome.

Hey you will be very pleased with deleting the mufflers. I had it done about 4 months ago and it sounds amazing. no freeway drone and when you are cruising it sounds good but not too loud. the best part is WOT when you really get to hear the 5 littre beast come alive. I paid 260 with magnaflow tips. No SES light or anyproblems yet so i would say go for it. There is sereiously no drone at all.

If you decide to go back to mufflers, will you be able to?

re: straigjht pipes......

If you go this route, you will lose power. You need at least a X-PIPE (Super Sprint) as it's been discusses many times here on the board. Without the X-Pipe, you will certainly lose a significant amount of power. Good luck with your project.

Could you direct me to a thread where this is discussed? I read through a large amount of threads and I remember reading that because I'm deleting JUST the mufflers, that it should not affect my power.
