I'm looking at purchasing a 2003 M5 and my extended warranty options. I talked to the finance manager at Concord BMW and was told they use Zurich. Has anyone heard of this warranty provider? If so, would appreciate any feedback.
They carry my malpractice, business and workmans comp insurance for my practice. I've been happy with their service, but have no experience with them as far as auto insurance goes (which is essentially what an aftermarket extended warranty is).
they are a big insurance company that has been around for a while and is unlikely to disappear like some of the internet auto warranty companies we've seen.

Zurich is a well-regarded, international insurance company with significant assets. They'll probably use their North American subsidiary to write the warranty coverage. The parent company is rated:
A1 (Positive) from Moody's Investor Service (Zurich Group, financial strength)
Insurance companies LOVE to write warranty insurance, because it's actuarially predictable and as such, is a very profitable line of business for them. I personally wouldn't be worried about getting a warranty insurance policy from them. But do take the time to read the terms and conditions and any exclusions.
+1 They underwrite my Disability Insurance for my business.....never have made a claim in 25+ years...but they are very reputable...like all insurance though read the fine print:deal: . Regards "M"
Zurich is a city in europe. Other than that, how can you make any association between "we use zurich" and all the insurance products that are available from the 'real' zurich?
Indeed, they may be the same company, or related, or they may simply borrow a name.
Last I heard it was UUG (universal Underwriters Group) and the parent was zurich financial services. Now they call it zurich. Unknown if it is the same company as Zurich North America
Make sure you know who is underwriting and how the company is backed.
Any reason why a $1300 cpo warranty isn't an option???
gonger- you want a copy of the POLICY, not the description of the policy.. that is the only way to evaluate the coverage.
Ard,
As you know, I was originally looking at a 03 M5 from Auto Imports (used car lot) and was told they could get the local BMW dealer to CPO it. That didn't really turn out to be true. I called the dealer and couldn't get anyone to validate what I was told by the used car lot. Also, the used car lot was just like any stereotypical used car lot - shady! The car looked great in the pictures and sounded wonderful, but upon actual inspection it had small scratches on pretty much every panel, very worn interior trim, etc. The folding mirrors actually stopped functioning while I was testing out the buttons and a "Tire Defect" light came on... not sure what that's about. However, the car ran pretty well, but the shifter felt loose and rubbery; but then again I'm coming from a 997 and not used to shifting an M5 so maybe that's normal?
Anyway, thank you and I appreciate all the info, but unfortunately I'm still looking for a clean M5...
Well, first - by asking the dealer about the CPO they will deny it! Again, as cpo is only for dealer stock. If the salesman can finagle a cpo, don't ask too many questions (about the CPO). All you need is the CPO enrollment form and that's it. Then again, maybe this was a total fabrication by the used car salesman... that'd be a first, eh?
So far I've talked to two different finance managers from two different dealers... and so far I've been told that I can only purchase extended warranties IF the car is still under factory warranty.
Is this true?
Can I still purchase an extended warranty AFTER the factory warranty has already expired?
Thanks again and sorry for all the newb questions!
