Calcium buildup under glovebox?

Sorry wrong thread. Moderator please put into e39 M5. Duh.

Looking around in the passenger footwell the other day, I noticed some spots just below the bottom of the glovebox door, and just above the recirc air intake. It almost looks like water drops have been accumulating there and leaving some calcium or lime residue behind when they dry. Or maybe there's some kind of glue residue coming out of the glovebox. It's fairly hard to scrape them off - like what you'd expect calcium to do.

Kind of hard to see in the picture, but toward the middle of the picture there are 3 dime size ovals, 3 smaller ones, and one rectangular spot on the right. The gap is the recirc intake, and the rounded surface above it is the bottom of the glovebox door.

Anybody else notice this in their cars?

Looks like a water leak, maybe from the windshield?
If you lived in the North East I would say this is road salt that came in with rain water through a leak.. Otherwise this could be just minerals from rain or car washing that ended up forming under the dash..

I'll definitely check it out next time I wash it to see if it gets wet somehow. Thanks for the idea.

To me it looks like an area where some excess glue ended up -looks like some of the foam (which is covered with vinyl) stuck to the excess glue??

Richie.

No, I don't think it's foam, but it could be glue although it is distributed really weird to be glue.
