Resetting Key Fob

Just took the beast out of hibernation this past week but now the remote functions on both key fobs don't work. At first thought it was because they hadn't been used and the batteries had died (probably true) but figured that a bit of driving would charge them up and they would work again, but that hasn't happened.

Last fall when I bought the car it only came with one key so I bought a new key from the dealer and the tech there programmed the new key. A week later I discovered the first key didn't work so he went through a little procedure and then they both worked, but I can't remember exactly what that procedure was. Something like turning the ignition to the second position with one key and pointing the other key (need two keys?) at the back of the car and holding the center button. I've searched all through this forum and the rest of the internet, but have not been able to find instructions on programming a key fob to lock/unlock the car. I will need some other work done soon at the dealer so I'll have them reprogram the keys then, but I still wouldn't mind knowing how to do this myself if it ever happens again.

John
