MAF Test - Can't get to correct screen

I have a 03 M5. I've read the directions in the MAF test link and they don't seem to apply to my year. At least I can't relate the "press right button" instruction to my car.

I was able to get to the service menu. I was able to get my VIN number, add the numbers together to get my unlock code.

However, I can not get to the Test-NR.01 screen mentioned in the writeup.

I wanted to run the test before I clean my MAFs with the CRC cleaner. How do I get to the screen that shows "current fuel consumption" once I'm in the Service Screen? Holding the "menu" button down doesn't get me there.

Thanks much. If this doesn't work I'll just go ahead with the cleaning and the seat of the pants evaluation.

Followup.

It worked. I was trying to get there from the NAV screen rather than from the buttons on the instrument cluster. Anyway, I went to Test 4 and there were two selections called VBR. Only one was in L/H so I assume this was the correct one.

I made four runs. (This fuel consumption test should be referred to as the "go to jail" test). I hit 125mph on one occasion to get to WOT. Anyway, I got three readings in the high 120's (128 L/H) and one reading of 131 L/H. I'll let the engine cool overnight and clean the MAFs then make another run
to see if there is any improvement.

Best readings are in 3rd gear... you should hit 105-108MPH IIRC.

131 isn't bad if it is repeatable in 3rd

if you really are in the 120s, new mafs are cheap (VW)

Thanks Ard. The 128 L/H readings were from my 3rd gear runs. I'm certain the 131 L/H reading was with the 4th gear run. After I clean the MAFs, I'll use the 3rd gear runs to check against.

4th gear runs? You must have a nice stretch of road!!

I turn off all my accesories, including AC and radio when I run my tests.

Jerry

FYI-

I was getting 125-128 for quite some time... then I got Air Fuel adapation range errors with SES but no 'limp mode', and the dealer put new MAFs in. BIG change in performance, numbers back up to 140 repeatedly in 3rd.

I ran two more tests in third gear after cleaning. No significant change. I got 130 the first time and 129 the second. Looks like I'll need to get new ones if I want to see 140.

I have both CPO and extended warranty through the dealer through 2009 and 100k miles. Will using VW MAFs cause me a problem with warranty? If so, where is the cheapest source for OEM Bosch MAF's?

I need to run this myself. Didn't even know this test was here. What do the MAF's run (VW vs. BMW)?
