Random Tech vs Evosport Race Cats

Which would go better with my SS Headers and Connecting pipe. I heard some people were having problems with their evosport cats? I read a couple of threads that owners were actually so frustrated that they were giving them away for free. I called up the guys at Evosport and they didn't seem very helpful either.

Which race cats should I go with? Do I just cut the stock cats off and weld the new ones in?

Evosport cats are made by carsound. Random Tech is garbage. The problems with those cats were generally "the indian" and not "the arrow". Race cats may not pass emissions in CA, even when hot. Also, when cold, they are prone to throwing catalyst efficiency codes. But, that is the nature of the beast with high flow race cats.

From personal experience, I have the Evo cats and they have been flawless (knock on wood) for over 10k miles now. I bought them to clear up an SES and they did the job while adding more horsepower and subtracting weight. No issues here.

Mainly I am looking for the "no cats" sound without the no cats smell. I am not really worrying about passing smog of the SES light, because I will just get software.

I think one of your tougher issues is because you are in california, everything must be stamped with the CARB certification. As I understand it, the BMW cats are the only cats for the M5 that have that stamp. Good luck.

in california, an 03 will not need a smog until 09, unless it's sold, so for many looking to mod, that is not an issue, car will likely be someone else's problem by then!

AHH Come on guys. Stay on task and help me out here. I don't care about smog or carb or crap like that. When I had my E46 M3, I ran test pipes (no cats) and just got D/A to take the SES light off. When it was time to smog, I know a couple of "special" smog places...
