Inspecting modified M5 in Miami?
Hi guys, i'm new to the forum. looking at buying a 2001-2003 M5 soon. i live in miami and have been looking at a couple of cars. have been reading a lot of info in this forum, by the way this forum is great. just have a couple of questions; how much Hp/Tq does the engine, trans. diff can hold. i like to do mods, He!He!. also is there any body in my area that would be willing to go with me and inspect a car. right now i'm looking at a 2001 Titanium silver, 77,000 miles. decent interiors, good exterior, has some mods; UUC 12" clutch, UUC short shift, UUC DSSR(don't know what that one is) Active Auto CAI, AA software. asking price is 28,995. carfax claims three owners. last owner got it reposessed and dealer(4th) owner has it now since Nov 2006. how can i find out more on this car. does BMW keep records of services made on it. help a future owner out
Ps. if anybody knows of another one for sale let me know. my budget is low. no more than $34,000 and that has to be a 2002 or 2003 with about 5x,xxx miles or less.
thanks in advanced

Try and find out which main dealer did most of the servicing, then have them pull the service records from the VIN. Then get the car in for a PPI.
The car can take power upgrades up to S3 level without issue (~620 bhp) other than clutch and subframe reinforcement (not a big deal to have done). Much more than that and you'll probably want to strengthen the differential and driveshaft.

Read and search here. Plenty of info.
You should be able to find an 02 that had previously been cpod with 50k for that number... bide your time. A repossession scares me, not sure it is rationale, but if they can't afford the car they likely didn't maintain it. Plus a 12"UUC clutch might have been someone who abused clutches.
All BMW service is filed under the VIN- any dealer can look it up. There is a website where you can decode the service codes...
Good luck
A

I bought mine from a dealer with 32,750 miles on it. Mint condition with a good service History. No mods at all completely stock. I paid around 44,000 for it. My girlfriend bought one privately with 56,000 miles in very good condition for I think 39,000. Both 2002. I feel that was fair.

You are asking the dealer to perform a service for you, so this means the dealer gets to rape your wallet.
