Issues during nav software upgrade

I just tried to update my Mk III system and I waited 15 mins. and the progress bar was all the way across, It never said to insert the map cd and ir WILL NOT eject the update cd. I turned the car off and it still has the progress screen and won't eject the cd. What do I do?

I read inanother thread that a guy removed the Cd by thr "cog method"
What is that?

Also I let the car sit for a while and got the install screen and tried to eject it to no avail.

There must be some other threads in this matter. You can allways try to remove one of the battery leads and then (after installing it -the battery lead) try again.

I can get it to reboot, I just can't eject the disc.

Thats what I meant. Turn of the car. Remove one of the battery leads. Let the car rest for a while and then connect the lead to the battery again and try to eject the CD.

If it works it's of course much easier.

You have to be patient and keep trying - at least with the Mk4. Not sure if the Mk3 works the same way, but try holding in the eject button for 30 sec. or a minute, or more if necessary. Let go, then press again. Keep trying this. On the Mk4, sooner or later it's like it forgets to be stubborn and pops out. I think the basic principle is hold the eject button in for a while, then when it gets confused, pounce with another strobe of the button.

I posted this in another forum and got this response:
Iv'e tried that at least 15 times to no avail I guess i will keep messing with it until something happens

Here's the 'official' way to eject according to BMW:

For a CD that will not eject from the Navigation computer follow the procedure below:
1. Remove the Navigation computer.
2. Unplug the voltage supply (blue connector).
3. Reconnect the voltage supply and immediately press the eject button repeatedly until the CD in the drive is ejected.
4. Insert a new Navigation CD and restart the installation process.

very wierd indeed... I've had the same sort of problem but with updating.. while it did eject the CD, the nav computers are fairly resilient (MK4 anyway) in that if it does die half way through it should accept the update CD and start again.
