I'll keep it short and sweet. This comparison is old news, but it was gratifying.
I meet 1 model year 2000 Porsche 996 non-turbo at a red light.
He is staggered about 1 length ahead at the light. He looks over at my car quite conspicuously during the red light. I prepare to do a high adhesion launch at the start because of the rear-engined nature of the Porsche. The light turns green, and he rolls away at a brisk but non-racing pace to about 20. At that time, he decides to try to shake off what is effortlessly keeping pace with his driver door. He goes full throttle at about 20 and so do I!! Immediately, my M5 closes the 1 car length advantage I afforded him. So I closed the 1 car length fast, and added at least another 1 1/2 to 2 by the end of second or the beginning of third. By the time I was at the rev. limiter in third, he was more than 4 car lengths behind and falling back.
I was glad this was a swift kill. I believe in "peace through strength." This driver was satisfied that he had no chance, thereby avoiding another run or a protracted race at higher speeds.
The Porsche driver quickly pulled up to my car, gave a thumbs up sign, and proclaimed that the "M5 is the ****." I was satisfied.
