My turn against the 996 non-turbo...

I'll keep it short and sweet. This comparison is old news, but it was gratifying.

I meet 1 model year 2000 Porsche 996 non-turbo at a red light.
He is staggered about 1 length ahead at the light. He looks over at my car quite conspicuously during the red light. I prepare to do a high adhesion launch at the start because of the rear-engined nature of the Porsche. The light turns green, and he rolls away at a brisk but non-racing pace to about 20. At that time, he decides to try to shake off what is effortlessly keeping pace with his driver door. He goes full throttle at about 20 and so do I!! Immediately, my M5 closes the 1 car length advantage I afforded him. So I closed the 1 car length fast, and added at least another 1 1/2 to 2 by the end of second or the beginning of third. By the time I was at the rev. limiter in third, he was more than 4 car lengths behind and falling back.

I was glad this was a swift kill. I believe in "peace through strength." This driver was satisfied that he had no chance, thereby avoiding another run or a protracted race at higher speeds.

The Porsche driver quickly pulled up to my car, gave a thumbs up sign, and proclaimed that the "M5 is the ****." I was satisfied.

I have yet to race head on with a 996 porsche. I've encountered too many rice rockets and am looking for a better meal for the beast!

Thanks.

Thanks guys. I am fortunate in some respects to live in L.A. because there are quite a few interesting cars out and about. In all honesty, I actually go hunting at certain times of night and in certain areas. I am always on the lookout for something special to race, but I pick my targets. No Corvette Z06s, Vipers or Porsche turbos. Not at least until maybe Dinan's supercharger package is released. I find the affluent areas in the San Gabriel valley have a wealth of cars prowling around. I know that someday I'm going to be blown out of the water by something unexpected, but so far I've been lucky.

A silver coupe tried to catch up to me down Richards a few months ago. When he did, him and his ladyfriend just gawked at us and turned on Davie...

Porsche... Turbo

Sorry to say, but I'd say Porsche 911 996 Turbo is the ****.
At 160 km/h, when the TT gives full throttle, it just seems the M5 has no power at all... big big difference.

But at 240+ km/h, the M5 pulls almost as fast as the TT astonishly.
