Supersprint Headers Upgrade Pics + Video

Here you go. Finally!

First, when I added the Dinan CAI to my beast a year ago, I probably got an extra 3 hp at the most, if that.

When I added the Tubi Rumore Plus exhaust 6 months ago, probably another 3 hp at the most.

Powerchip 93 software upgrade really added a very noticeable increase in torque on low RPMs but I dont know what hp it added if any.

But the Supersprint headers - Oh my God! I have no doubt, at least 30 hp.

Thank God for DSC, my tires kept spinning when I now mash the pedal. The sound of Tubi is now even better. It now has a rounded low end growl. The restrictive stock headers are gone so the beast can now really breath. And with the Jet Hot coating, I did notice that my engine temp is slightly lower than normal during hard driving.

Absolutely no drone at any speed. Volume of exhaust increased I would say about 30%. The sound of my exhaust system now is simply awesome.

All in all, I am indeed very very happy with this upgrade. The best mod ever for the beast.

Next week, I will have my Powerchip 93 upgraded. Then I will be taking my beast to the Dyno, then I will post results here.

I highly recommend this upgrade. Attached are photos and video.

Note: Jet Hot coating is not necessary. Remember also that should you have your SS headers Jet Hot coated anyway, realize that it voids the headers warranty. So if you encounter a quality problem with your headers - you are stuck with it and you cant return it.

Average installation takes about 12 hours. Enjoy!

Well, it seems my video clip is too large as it wont upload. I have a one minute video clip that is 75MB file size, how can I post this file?

Sweet.....I really think I'm gonna have to do this soon. Seems like headers are the only thing that really open up the torque.

You can share your file on all kinds of file sharing sites......

Congrats on the headers Dan! Are you using the stock cats and did it require welding to install the connecting pipes?
Look forward to your vid!

Nice upgrade gain Dan Congrats...hope to see you when you come by Socal:cheers:

dan,

i think you just put this on my short list of upgrades, but with your feedback, i will likely do this before i get the powerchips software. i hate paying for stuff twice. how much were the headers? did you do the work yourself?

p.s. please stop spending my money...!!!! but my beast will love you!!!!!

Here's the video!

I posted it in google video. Please see link below.

Gustav, I tried sending the file to you twice but it got rejected by your server as the file is too big so I gave up.

Lawaia - yes I am using stock cats as I heard non stock cats will trigger the SES light and I sure dont want that. Yes, they connecting pipes had to be welded.

Chris, I'll call you the next time I'm in Irvine. Most likely next month. Hopefully we can meet up.

gherardini - Yes, another worthy upgrade for our beasts. THe SS headers you can purchase at Beastpower, they have the best price. I purchased mine from a fellow boardmember. An awesome guy. He purchased it brand new but never got around to installing it on his beast so he sold it to me for a great price.

Yes, get the headers first, then Powerchip software upgrade as there is a charge for software upgrade reflash.

I think this is one of those upgrades that's best left to the pros. It is not an easy upgrade. My installer only charged me for 15 hours of labor but it took him a lot longer than that. Thanks John!

I dont have a picture yet of the finished installation as I havent gotten the chance to put my beast on a lift, but here's a similar installation.
Photo courtesy of another excellent, very helpful board member Jon@theMshop.

Enjoy the video!

Make sure you wait a couple of days after the Powerchip upgrade before you go to the dyno. It took a few miles for the computer to take full advantage of the upgrade, like the first time you put in higher octane gas. I haven't had any problems with the headers and love the improvement in performance.

Sounds awesome mate.

Just a quick question: I'm thinking of getting the Tubi Rumore exhaust, I know you have the Rumore 'Plus' version but, before you got the headers, was there any drone/resonance at all and what was it like at cruising speed?
Thanks

Thanks for all the compliments folks. I really appreciate it.

First, a big sincere appreciation to "Shadowman" of DA, and a big thanks also to Jon@theMshop. These folks was so kind enough to contact my installer when he was having a difficult time putting together the headers. (It is not an easy installation if you have no experience on this.)
Never ending thank you to both of you!~

A few other notes:
Stock hearders weighs about 45 pounds. I weighed the SS headers prior to installation. It only weighs a total of 25 lbs. There goes another 20 lbs of the beast. As you all know, it is not all about adding power. Reducing the weight of the beast makes you go faster too.

Mike Krieger: Thanks for the tip. That's actually what I have planned. After PC reload, I plan on waiting and driving the beast for a week before the dyno run.

My own personal opinion. I have done my homework on this and waited until I have all the funds, and for my own personal taste on waht I am looking for an exhaust, the best sounding for me is Tubi.

I heard the Tubi Regular and for me it is too tame. I heard the Rumore and that was good, but I wanted a little more ooomp so I opted for the Rumore Plus, and I am extremly happy with my decision. (we are all different so go with what sounds good to you.)

Tubi has it all figured out. I am very impressed. You can barely hear the exhaust at idle, there is absolutely NO drone cruising at any speed, barely audible cruising at 80mph, audible at normal acceleration, but you mash the pedal and whoooaaaaa!

The Tubi is sound is very pleasing, Ferrari sounding (this is what it was originally built for I understand) and not annoying at all.
I have yet to have someone complain or give me thumbs down or a dirty look.

Everywhere I drive now, I get the looks and the thumbs up. Sometimes it becomes embarrassing as people actually look to see where the sound is coming from and stare as I drive by. I look at my rear view mirror as I drive away and they are still looking at my beast.

Last night, two kids on a souped up Prelude pulled along side. Motioned me to roll my passenger side window down and said "Sharp Ride Man! Rev it some more!" All I can say is thank you.

Every since Tubi installation, I rarely use my Integrated video iPod. I now often drive with windows rolled down so I can hear my exhaust. This thing literaly puts a smile on my face everytime I hear it. And with the SS headers complimenting it sound output, I am a happy man.

People ask me what would be my next mod? I guess I dont know as I very happy right now with my set up.

Jon, I dont know much about 3:45 differential. Educate me please. PM me or post here.

Thank you guys!

Congats!! No one who has done headers has been sorry.

As to 15 hours to install, that is way slow, but if the labor rate was low, it still is OK.

Have fun, expect around 30 rwhp on the dyno!!!
Regards,
Jerry

Dan,
I am glad that all has worked out for you and that the results are so satisfying!!! I hope to get to start my install in a few weeks. In the video... you should have smooked the tires :M5launch:

Hi Jerry, thanks for the congrats. Yes, I enjoy the SS headers very much. I will post dyno results as soon as I get it done.

Hi Bob, thanks for chiming in. That's what this board is all about - sharing knowledge, info and experiences. Yes, another board member Paul took ownership of my stock headers.

Jimbo, we will check out each others headers this Saturday when we meet for our Saturday morning drive. Yours should be done by Friday right?

Mr. Brock, thanks, yes, finally, things all worked out, and it was worth the wait. Let us know how your install goes. You will be happy!

Yes, I wanted to smoke the tires but the road is too wet so the tires just kept on spinning, so I backed off on the throttle. Yeah, it rains here often in Seattle. What else is new. At least no more snow!

Interesting tidit...I keep worrying about mods that add weight.. this is nice to know. Slap on a cf hood, and there goes another 35 or so pounds...
