Bottoming out?

Has anybody else experienced the rear of their Beast bottoming out (rear wheels scraping arches) when they have rear passengers?

I totalled a tyre a couple of months ago (£450.00 / $600.00) and have since had various occasions where the tyre has rubbed, but not been badly damaged - very slight marks.

I appreciate that the car is lower than a standard 5er, but surely I cannot be expected to pay £450.00 every time I want to carry passengers?

It mainly happens when accelerating hard, or when I hit a dip (not massive holes - I'm always careful) - I had a '99 528i before the Beast, with M-suspension, but never had this sort of problem.

If anyone else has had this, please let me know, as I'll let my dealer know and will maybe/hopefully be able to get the tyre replaced under warranty - but certainly get him to check the rear suspension anyway.

Thanks,

Mark

If I remember correctly there was a previous post on this topic. I think the fenders were involved and the dealer fixed it free of charge. I'm not sure but hope this helps.

Back in August I remember a thread about some folks having their rear inner wheel wells not tightly fastened to the car which resulted in tires being destroyed. Damages were covered by the dealer.

Sorry I can't remember more... someone else will probably chime in here, but you could also try searching old threads.

The rear fenders are rolled from the factory...to accomadate the big 275 tires...sometimes they did not get it right.

The dealers should replace the tires for free and roll the fenders.

Bottoming Out-Solution

Mark5mith, I had the same problem...as others on the board have had as well. I took the car to my local dealer and they had the body shop roll the inside of the fender well they are also going to replace my right-rear tire b/c of the damage(grooves) on the sidewall...all under warranty.

Thanks for your responses - I'll call in to my dealer tomorrow. I'll post back what they say.

I'm going to print this thread out, to show them it's not an isolated case. If anyone else has had this happen, please let me know, so that I have a stronger case.

Thanks again for your help,

Regards,

Mark
