I was considering getting the CD changer (NAKAMICHI) Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with it? Also can it be done by any besides the dealer?

1. if you get it, u cannot use the trunk CD chgr.

2. I've heard the failure rate for these units is high...they might be better now...

3. when they fail your CDs are stuck inside.

I thought about getting NAKAMICHI when I purchased my M5. I hear same things what KirklandM5 mentioned plus darn thing skips a lot more than one in trunk (ALPINE). It wasn't recommended by sales/parts/service people. It really doesn't worth paying $1000 for it when you have one comes in standard. Although convenience of having the changer inside the glove comparment is better than trunk. I hate going to my trunk to change cds.

I inquired about the glove box CD player at Weatherford BMW in Berkeley, CA. I thought a Nakmichi deck would be a good thing.

The parts person told me that they had a lot of problems with many of them coming back. I asked whether it was just some inconvenience (occasional jamming, etc.) since I really wanted accessibility at the glove box. He then conferred with a senior parts person to find out exactly why they came back. The senior person turned to me and said that many actually break. I forget the specifics but I was prepared to buy the unit even if it was quirky. Instead I took their advice to leave without it.

I would be pleased to hear some positive reviews of this CD player. Maybe the harness could be adapted to another brand of unit.
