Had the same problem with my charge piping popping off my plenum. Literally, a loud POP during a pull. These clamps need to be super tight!
Dave
It scared the hell out of me actually as I had my head under the dash revving the engine with my one hand and looking at the Aquamist DSS3 and the FIA2 and had a video camera in the other hand. All I could think is what now....
I ordered a new 45 degree coupler today,be here Monday as I did not like the way the one on there had been cut to fit.The charge pipe that meets up with the SC I am taking to the shop to have a little bead added around the bottom .I will add a picture later.
So in the mean time I am today pulling everything apart ,inspecting the charge piping ,inspecting the car around where the oil enters the engine as I see a little oil down below there ,but not above there thank goodness and I think the plate that holds the lines in place is askew a bit and then over the week end change the oil & filter out*( all 12 quarts of it ) and put it all back together and await the new coupling.
I ordered a few BMW items that will be here next week as such a the temperature sender, the double temp sender and a new fan shroud. Then I will drain the cooling system and add the new senders and then put that all back together.
I am trying to get the car 100% before Mr.X and I meet up once again for the final finessing of my tune.
Why do people do this to the pipes?
The engine as clean as it will ever be...
My aquamist priming container.
I've had charge pipes blow off on my system as well, it happens even if you think you got them clamped down. I use the standard clamps tightened down with an 8mm socket, but you can also buy v-band clamps which are much much more durable and stronger, but also a little more expensive.
I just had one blow off the other day when I was boosting getting on the freeway, so there I am laying on my back tryin to get the clamp on in a tight little spot with a crappy screw driver, not fun. Had to stop by the parts store and buy an 8mm socket as i didnt bring one with me as I was on my way to a car cruise headin for Santa Cruz.

People give me crap as I carry a box in the trunk of the car full of belts and meters and tools just in case something happens away from my garage at home....On long distance trips I take a compact two ton hydraulic jack as well as a 950CCA battery booster on the floor in the back...

LOL, godd one Dave. Thank da Lord for AAA and cell phones. I heard it is a common disease of the "audioheads" (I should know). What about Wiggins clamps?
I have AAA and I have the Progressive policy that covers me as far as Roadside goes, but I am afraid that since I have such unusual stuff in my car even if I get some yahoo in a wrecker they will just look at my car dumbfounded and say yep unhuh yep a lot and then say we will have to order those parts from Bixby which will have to come by pony express.I'd rather have the unusual parts like a spare SC belt and the other two belts for the car a few hoses ,a set of tools etc...
I do not have room up top at the SC for a Wiggins ,barely room for the T-clamps and most likely will have to go with a regular clamp. The charge piping hits the insulation for the hood pretty well.BUT,for other applications a Wiggins is a good thought...
I am cleaning off the sticky belt dressing Mr.X sprayed on my belt when he was tuning it as the belt was slipping. It is not easy to remove with denatured alcohol.I as well found my oil leak that I noticed part of the ICS oil hose fabrication...I have parts everywhere.....
