I presume these tuning runs are not all out, as the engine has yet to be broken in? Do you know what the engine speeds are?
Dave
The first time around the car would not go above 4500RPM and got around 400WHP . I do not know what RPM it got to today actually. As far as the engine being broken in as far as I know once the rings get set that is it you can run the car .Still using mineral oil though I think and they have changed the oil twice along with the filter. Since we had problems with the nut backing out and the valve springs I think George is just making sure there is nothing in the oil that should not be there... I will ask what kind of RPM's he ran today and report back. I am just glad we are to the point of tuning , not fixing. The new HKS diverter will be fitted this next go around I have been told....Another note , George drove the car on the street for about 50 miles to allow the ECU to get set to the car, clear all the codes and what not , then he put it on the Dyno today. Now he will put a few more miles on the car then pull the ECU and send it back to Nick G and then he starts all over and hopefully we will see another big jump in HP an TQ and not max out the MAF....
+1. Good to hear things are moving along. This is indeed quite an iterative process. I look forward to hearing more.
Dave
You are correct in as much as how the tuning is going. This is the first time Nick G has tuned the ME7 ECU and he is doing the mapping very cautiously which I have no problem with at all. He will have to send it back to George hopefully just a couple of more times before he feels he can fly up to Connecticut and do the final tune in person.Of course every time Nick G remaps the ECU , the ecu has to have time to adjust to the car so George has to drive the car around until all the codes clear and then he can put it on the Dyno. Hopefully George will have the new HKS diverter in place so the when they get the car into the higher RPMs the air volume will be correct and not run the car rich...
People wonder why it is so expensive to supercharge... this is an example. R/D costs for kit development are big. The demand really needs to be there to recoup costs. This is why four tuners that I know of have stepped back from FI projects for the S62.
Individual costs for one-off extreme projects like yours can be enormous!

In the end, you will have a unique bird indeed!

I am lucky I am still married , costs have been mentioned to me by my other half more than once especially when I bought the porsche to keep me entertained while waiting on the BMW....
Wait a second, you sold stocks, bought a Porsche and some jewelry at a great time(compared to the other day), you hopefully bought the land and fixed up the garage for this car when she is allowed home.
your doing alright

The land is mine , finally , the HVAC is being bidded on for the garage , yes I have to keep the wife happy , and yes I bought an old Porsche that had been slightly modified . I still complain though.....

I just got told today that the 485 was made around 5200RPM. ECU is back in Florida with Nick G and should be back Thursday or Friday this week to ICS... So maybe Saturday another run on the Dyno and the new diverter will be in place this run I am told... I now just got told that it seems that the exhaust system , mainly the muffler , might be restricting the air flow and I of course already have all Supersprint product with in the car. Now I might have to run another pipe and muffler , AARRGGHHH....
