Radio stops working ?

My Radio/CD/NAV screen will stop working and then minutes later come back on, if I turn it off&on after it stops working it will work again for a short while??? Whats up with that? The BMW installed phone (CPT 7000) also does not work any longer with the steering wheel controls or hands free? Are these problems related?

can you please clarify is it just the screen that doesn't work, or do you lose all audio output related to nav phone etc?

I lose all the audio and the screen, the phone is a separate issue (I think) it works if you take it out of the cradle just not with the steering wheel controls or hands free speaker phone.

Mine does the same thing. In our last rally, the Nav screen shut down, along with the radio. Now that I think about it, it happened after our last rally too. Both times after a lot of hard driving. Of course, when I bring it to the shop it's working fine, so they don't want to "fix what ain't broke".

I just lose the audio here and there but the nav screen stays. It will usually come back on its own or if I turn it off and then on again it will come back.

I had that problem a few years ago. Something that had to do witht he nav system in the trunk I believe. The unit was replaced and I never had the problem again.

All audio is passed through the radio, amp and nav unit in the trunk. The I-bus handles control signals for radio, nav and phone....

There are a variety of wierd audio issues that can be caused by component failure OR BAD/LOOSE CONNECTIONS in any one of these modules.

Try disconnecting all these devices and reconnedting- all it takes is a pin that has a spot of corrosion, or has wiggled loose. Disconnect and reconnect 3-4 time, maybe 'scrubbing' the contacts with this action.

Worth a shot before a dealer visit.

Hi guys- I am a newb here but I spend alot of time on BF.c and alot of times gremlins having to do with the radio are a sign of a failing battery.

http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/t...es/battery.htm

Further, if you start to note other symptoms such as steering wheel not moving on start up (not moving to memory settings), problems with the visor vanity lights, or dash cluster lights your ignition switch is likely failing.

Could be a thermal cutout of the DSP amp if its happening after spirited driving.. exhaust heats up and heat radiates into the boot (trunk). When I am at track days I leave the access panel open as to try and disipate the heat 'somewhat'
