Just got one yesterday. It feels great. Now I can actually feel it click into gear. Part of the reason I think is that the old bearing gets replaced, and after 42k the old one apparently was loose and sloppy. Having bought the car used, I don't know what the shifter felt like when new. Should be a maintenance procedure to either replace the whole shifter, or replace the bearing at every inspection II or something like that.

But I like the lower height too - more like where a real shifter should be, unless you like the feel of Ford std. trucks with the 3 ft. shifter, or old Mopar Roadrunner etc. with the long pistol grip.

There's a million posts on this topic. Do a search for information.

Dinan SSK

I can also attest to this SSK being a good one. Snick, snick into gears and no rattling/vibrationup in the upper RPM range, whatsoever. You can order direct (800-341-5480) or get it through one of their dealers near you. Check www.dinanbmw.com (click on "authorized dealers") to see if there's a dealer in your area. Dinan quotes install labor time as 8/10th's hour; so a dealer would probably charge you 1 hour labor. SSK price on their website is $189, but they're offering a 10% rebate; so currently about $170 net.

Have fun!!

Dan

I have one and it feels like there is less throw and more effort to shift. Love it!

I have one and it's great. Not a *radical* difference from stock. I've driven some that are (Gavin...did you ever figure out what SSK you have?), and I like the Dinan better.

Good change from stock IMHO. Clicks nicely into each gear, no feeling like your shifting into a stick of butter (which is how the stock one felt to me) I got mine for ~$160 from my local Dinan dealer (Tompson BMW). Took me more like 2 hours to install (if you don't have a lift it takes extra time to get under the car)
