Hi just want to get input from you guys

I just got the e39 back from Park Lane. Been there 3 weeks

they gave me a 118i S for the duration and well the less said about that the better. After getting the 5 back i find the gearbox notchy.

It could be i got too used to the 6sp of the 118i but still getting used to it. They put a new clutch in too, i paid for that, box was under warranty

they also replaced all the suspension parts at the front, hubs too!

Should the box be notchy??

The gearboxes do tend to be notchy especially when going into 2nd gear. Also the colder the weather, the notchier the box. Can you elaborate as to how notch it is and what gear(s) seem to be at fault.

Mostly 1st to 2nd. But its BRAND NEW!!!

prob loosen up after a few miles

Exactly, give it time to break in. The cold temps. do not help.

I had my transmission replaced under warranty about 18 months ago and my shifting was still notching after the replacement. I just recently had the transmission oil changed and that helped a bit between 1-2 but still notchy.

I drive a lot of VW at work all day long, and when I get in my 540 the box is terribly notchy, and sometimes a little annoying. I just get used to that shift with your fingertips VW linkage.
I drove my roomates E30 M3 the other day with an Evo II SSK, and then later my friends E90 325 with the M Roadster shifter in it, and low and behold, my E39 shifted like butter again!
I'm not saying the 226 isn't a notchy box, but all said and done it can be what you are used to. Some notchiness in the box is usual.
