        LED Update

        All,

I now have the turn indicators and all three brake lights converted to LED's. The brake lights I like, but I am not happy with the turn indicators.

I am going to add a second pair of brake lights in the area where the rear fog lights would be if that option were available in the states. This is the space inside (toward the license plate) of the backup lights. This will be fairly easy to do, because the hole is already there. You have to remove the plate or drill a hole through the cover. All the power for the extra LED's is right in place. Perhaps this will also add a bit more load to the brake lights and the car will stop indicating "check brake lights" when I start it up.

As far as the turn signals go, I am going to add two more LED's to each side. The reason for this is two fold. The LED's are bit more concentrated and I want two spread the light out over a larger area. I also am hoping that the additional load will slow the signals down somewhat.

The addition of the LED's to the turn signals is not going to be an easy one. I will need to drill two additional holes in the clear area for the signals. Because of the design of the rear of the lense, drilling will be a bit tricky. I will let you know how it turns out.

The LED's can be purchased from www.LEDtronics.com.

Mark - Wish I could see 'em. Sounds very cool. Do these LED's require dropping resistors like normal LEDs, or are they built-in?

        Greg,

The resistance is built in. In fact, you can down load a complete spec sheet from the sight, www.ledtronics.com. There still needs to be some additional resistance added, but not bad just the way it is. These LED's where specifically built for the auto industry, so they took the load factor in to account when they where manufactored.

        Mark,

Please take a look at the following URL from
Ledtronic. I have not seen this one before and the problem
you have described as "being too concentrated", might be
solved by these bulbs, which have a provision for reflection.

        Rick,

Thanks for the link and those are the LED's that I have installed in the car. The LED's that face around the outside of the assembly do help, but not enough for a large area like our turn signals. They work just fine for the brake lights where the area is much smaller for good reflections.

In fact, all three brake lights are really nice. The color is actually a deeper brighter red. The LED's have a very noticable acuteness to them. That is they are instant on/off. I like the effect so much that I am adding two additional LED's to the area where the rear foglights would have been.

Thanks for the link. These are the LED's that I used.

        Mark,

How much did you say you paid from the distributor? The link
on the Ledtronics site has a shopping cart and sells them for
$48.50 each. As I understand it, you purchased the red and the yellow LEDs. Wonder if it would be worthwhile trying the cool
        white?

        Rick,

I tried the cool white and I was not happy with the color behind the red lenses. It was almost pink. The super red is definitly the way to go. I might try the white for the back up lights.

You will need to modify the LED that goes into the third brake light. It entails trimming some of the plastic from the LED cover and removing the cover entirely. It will fit just fine after that.

Let me know if you have any questions about the process.

        Mah,

Can you give us the exact part numbers for the super red LED bulbs that you got? I went to the website to try and find it before without luck. Maybe a link would work too. I went to this one:

        http://www.datasheets.led.net/Pages...ayonet/137a.htm

But I'm not sure which one to get.

Finally, did you get the same bulb for all three? The 2 brake lights plus the third brake light?

Did you have any other issues with the electronics and such as Greg mentioned?

        Jason,

        The brake LED's are AUT1156-0ER-014
These are the super red LED's.
        The turn signals are AUT1156-0UY-014

You can purchase directly from the distributor -
        Netdisty 310-326-5806

        Hope this helps,

        Mark,

        These do help....yes!

        Two things though...

Are those super red bulbs also the same for the third brake light too and did you have an issue with those LEDs affecting your electronics system as Greg mentioning causing your car to tell you that the bulbs are burned out.

And the turn signals are clear meaning I can replace my silverstones bulbs on all four corners!? The front bulbs are going to be HARD to replace!

Thanks again! I'll order them as soon as I hear from you!
