Dinan flywheel?

Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone has any updated info on this? It's still not posted on the dinan website yet, so I'm curious if it's on sale yet, or being delayed further?

FredCourtot was the one who had it installed on his car and then they took it out because of some technical issues. He said the car would not idle properly and there were apparently some other problems with it? I also seem to remember hearing someone say (they had talked to Steve or one of his folks on this) that it may not even be feasible on the M5??

Fred, Mark, anyone??

any updates on this?

Last I heard was they were going with a 25% weight reduction as opposed to the 50% they tried on Fred's car. After all is said and done, if Steve Dinan does not find the performance he's looking for he may not release it. Too many factors here to figure out what's going on without more info.

a lighter flywheel on a heavy car as the m5 is not a feasible mod and it will definetely harm the 0-60 performance numbers... you might get some improvement at highway speeds acceleration, but i dont think the m5 clutch/flywheel assembly is strong as is from the factory so a lighter flywheel (think also thinner) is just adding insult to injury...

how is that for a spilled thought

I think the fllywheels are available now. 2 choices; StageI is a lightened factory dual mass flywheel, should be noiseless and smooth. Stage II is a much lighter aluminum flywheel, high performance but with noticeable gear noise. The Stage I would be for me, I just haven't gotten around to it yet. It is7lb lighter than stock for an18%reduction in weight, and a 40% reduction of rotational mass.

I have utilized aluminum flywheels in many cars over the years.

The basics are this:

For the best launch from a stop: a heavier flywheel.

For the best acceleration once the clutch is fully engaged: a lighter flywheel.

I remember someone complaining about starting from a stop with 4 passengers. If this is so, you shouldn't go lighter.

The lighter the flywheel, the more you need to slip the clutch to start.

yep, I agree.. I hope that Dinan would release an uprated clutch to go with their lightweight flywheel.. It'll be harder to launch, but then once you get the hang of it, the performance increase should be very noticable...
