iPod for 2003 M5

I got an iPod for Christmas and I am trying to get it to work on my 2003 M5. The Griffin FM transmitter that came with it is awefull. Too much static. Is there an easy way to connect it to the existing stereo? I saw a number of post on how to do this on the new E60 M5, but nothing on the E39 M5.
Please help.

Check out our board sponsor Bravarian Soundwerks.

http://www.bavariansoundwerks.com/

They offer the Dice system which is quite popular, offers many mounting options, and is cheap too!

I particularly like how member "whatheheck" set up his. Out of the way and in the trunk....

I've got mine mounted in the trunk as well and use a Dension IceLink which allows control through the stereo's steering wheel/dash buttons.

Ipod in the car will be awesome. Beware though, to use the Icelink and the steering wheel controls, you have to loose steering wheel controls with the CD player. theres a trade off I'm wiling to live with.

Very true. In fact, you lose the CD player all together. You have to disconnect it to install the icelink. But no, I do not miss the CD player at all.

I heard that BMW is working on iPod retrofit kits for late model cars. I am waiting to see what this will be like and how much it will cost (or if it comes to pass - right now the iPod link on the BMW USA website site says to "come back later").

Until then, I am using a $20 tape adapter from Monster Cable. Not very elegant, and not the greatest sound either, but it is a passable and cheap solution while I wait (and I can use it in my wife's car too).

I have the icelink as well which replaces the cd changer. I had the wire run into my euro armrest. So I just keep my ipod in the center console completely out of sight but easily accesible.
