Finding manufacture date?

I tried looking at the under-hood placards etc but no luck...am I blind?

Anyone with a current CarFax feel like helping?

Well if you have had your car serviced at the dealer at any point there is a production date box on the invoice which may or may not be blank.
If you don't have that you can always try and contact BMW direct. They have always answered my questions quickly via email. Here's a link for Canada. On the bottom of the page you will see contact link.
http://www.bmw.ca/com/en/index_highend.html

Since I just bought my car, I am not sure where it is on the vehicle as well.

It's funny, I thought I looked carefully at my driver's side door jam before but apparently not since I didn't notice it until just now. Thanks Ard.

Can't be sure, all you get is the month. Some time in april is my guess. I've never seen the day written.

You are lucky, in that you have the piston ring upgrade, as it happend in march of 2000. Mine is Febuary, so no ring upgrade.

Mine, too ... 2003 ... but it is just the end of the week of production ... and, anyway, April Fools day is a US only thing ... I think ...

OOPS ... My error ... Well, anyway, they must have been doing their job as my car has been just fabulous ... in every way ... for 57,000 miles.
