My nav has started to occasionally locate itself as being about 40 miles east of where it actually is. I've tried everything - unplugging the electronics, changing the CD etc. but nothing seems to work - I'd say it's OK about 75% of the time and hopelessly lost the other 25%. What to do?

I would first check to make sure the GPS unit is functioning... check in the service menu of the NAV (the one where you hold MENU down in the set menu for about 5 seconds)....

If the GPS is not working you will find the version numbers for the GPS unit will show as 0.0.0.... where it should be something like 7.3.10 (for example).

If they are showing 0 then your GPS unit inside the nav unit (assuming MK4) is playing up. normally a reset will fix it but if it keeps happening then the nav unit / gps unit (for mk1-3) may be on the way out and need replacing.

just a thought...

what version of NAV do you have 2, 3 or 4?

I found that it was more common with the latest version of the nav software. which version are you running? has anything changed since it started happening or its just started occuring by itself?

I'm using version 2-1/80 on the original MK II. It started after I replaced the OE DSP amp with another, purchased used.

First off then I would remove and replug the GPS unit.. could be a bad connection of sorts
